Thanks, though I can't take credit for it. I decided to change form my 'Dominic Cooper for Bond' campaign, to include my other fandom (though these days, Doctor Who is way out in front in terms of my interest in the current incumbent. I had only vague memories of Who repeats in the 1990's. But I started watching the show in 2007. Capaldi has become one of my favourites, with 'Flatline' being my favourite of his stories so far. Though I liked Smith too, and would have liked another series of the 11th Doctor. But when asked for my #1 Doctor, it's McCoy. As lightweight and fluffy as they were, I can sit through those early stories. But it goes without saying, that the quality of the stories got better into series 25, and especially series 26.

Sylvester's time was marred by some haters, eventually perhaps because of the New Adventures book series he reached are more epic standing. Well at least to some fans.
I have not read any of the New Adventures. But since branching out my 7th Doctor collection from the tv stories, to the Audio Dramas, I guess the NA's are the next step. :)

On whether he hesitated in doing a Bond film:
"I did, yes. I always hesitate... You ask yourself, hang on: what James Bond are we talking about? The thing about Spectre is that it is not the work of hack writers. It does not have a hack director. The actors are not hams. The action sequences in Mexico are extravagant to say the least. The scenes in Austria are traditional Bond action in the snow. These films with Daniel Craig have shifted the tone. They don't depend on a set formula that forces actors simply to go through the motions."
This if why it bothers me when Pierce, Roger and the others go all lovey on NuBond. They keep being knifed in the back, reputation trashed, by the same people who delight in receiving these former 007 actors approval.
Hack writers, certainly sounds like Logan to me. Certainly he can't mean P&W, the saviours who came back after being begged by the not ham actor Daniel and the not a hack director to fix the not hack script. Christopher probably is not aware MGW was a writer of probably what he considerer hack scripts.

I seriously want this to replace Quantum as worst Bond film (eva!).
I know what you mean about the old guard having their reputation tarnished by these kind of remarks, but there is some truth in what Waltz said, about the tone which has shifted.

Craig Bond era is now seen as having more drama than it used to have, more character depth than Jaws falling in love, double-taking pigeons, invisible cars, etc. which is attracting more Oscar calibre and art-house talent than it used to.

Whether it is actually making the Bond films better with this shift in tone is another matter entirely, and one which I know most of you here won't agree with.... :P

I see there was some previous discussion about who would be good as James Bond. While many here said Henry Cavill and Toothpaste said Dominic Cooper...I have to say I never saw any movie with Henry Cavil so I don't know how much of an actor is he but I did watch Dominic Cooper in "Education" and there I liked him a lot.Cavil has the looks but you need to have more than just that. You need to have sophistication, charisma and aura of coolnes.Does Cavil has those things?now with Cooper...he doesn't quite fit.I try to imagine him as Bond and I just can't.He is suited for the confident "bad boy" role but I can't see him as Bond.Anyways,I think this discussions are pointless.Do you really think Babs is going to pick some brains and suddenly realise who Bond is supposed to be?I don't think so.

Cavill has ALL of that: style, charisma, everything. And he is an EXCELLENT actor. Watch "The Tudors" and get back to me.
Also, below is the trailer for The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and it looks AWESOME. Exciting and fun. A HUGELY better thing than that horrendous Spectre stuff -- that the desperate people at EON, who saw Cavill and his Napoleon Solo get to well over a million hits for the trailer in a very short time for something completely new, had to put out REAL quick. That thing is now at over 2.5 million views. Which again, for something entirely new and launching now, is quite impressive.

And there is no discussion for us on here  Henry Cavill IS James Bond and he was supposed to be when they did Casino Royale already. I take it you don't know he was the last man standing against Craig and they picked Craig last minute because they deemed Cavill too young (which is why the script is so ridic for Craig.. it was writen for Cavill and an ACTUALLY young, rookie Bond).

I think Cavill would have been a great choice for Bond.
I never knew he was in the running Ale, until the last moment. That's a new one on me.

I always thought it was between Clive Owen and Craig.

Yeah I know Cavil was against Craig but 22 is too young to be Bond. Still only moron would pick Craig over Cavil even if he was only 22. But no CR wasn't written in mind for new Bond but for Pierce whom was told that he was going to come back until he found out THROUGH his agent. While Craig was probably giving a massage to Barbara..m :cuss:

I don't know that Owen was ever in serious consideration for the role. There was a lot of talk on the Internet about him being Bond, but I've never heard of him being on any shortlist. The way I hear it, the shortlist for CR was Craig, Cavill and Sam Worthington.

It was 'Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond' that got me thinking about Cooper as Bond. He wasn't much like Fleming, but he was so Bondian in that mini-series. Cooper is still my choice for the current Bond.

Clive Owen was Amy Pascal's choice for Bond. That's about all it comes down to.
Althou he made light of the rumour and the role by parodying 007 as 'Agent 006' in the Pink Panther with Steve Martin. No idea if he was ever seriously approached. Hugh Jackman was but he never shown the script he asked for probably because he is "too fey".

As much as I detest Amy she held talks with Pierce only a few weeks before Daniel was announced, begging Pierce to return for one more. As Pierce told here it was not up to him or apparently her. This was back when she had some say in the matter unlike the recent leaked Elba emails where she is only a backer instead of a partner.

I enjoy Clive Owen in some movies, Children of Men for instance, however his Bond would be as miserable as Daniel's, perhaps better balanced and more watchable.

He everyone's choice in 2005 save for one. Our favourite lady overlord only had eyes for Daniel.
Honestly if Cavill had the roll in 2006 I think Casino Royale would be a much better film, the ones that followed as well.

It's fine if people enjoy Daniel as an action star, he's mildly competent in this arena. He's just not Ian's 007, he's Not Ian, Cubby, and Saltzman's 007 either. He's Barbara's action star in a series called James Bond. If Barbara had the grapes to actually say what she has done, created a action spin off based on the original series, allowing other fans who dislike the Nu Bond the right to opine, I might respect her more. It's not what happened, even if they were to admit it would be denied as the next movie rolled around.

Look at poor MGW, we could pull tapes of him talking about 007, with his opinion of what makes it work (Pre-Daniel) and the recent interviews you would think he had mini stroke right before the camera came on.
We could also pull tapes of Barbara acting like a blushing bride on her wedding night talking about Pierce, I'd rather watch 'Love & Monsters' again, which is complete and utter rubbish.

I don't know if 007 can return to the balance that made it work for so long. In way the farther they get the harder it is to return. The Star Trek series is doing the same thing making it more doubtful real Trek will ever come back.
Thankfully other movie makers are resurrecting some of the spirit of what Bond used to be, maybe one day Barbara and her brother will be temped into nostalgia and indulge, rather than try to put often bad homages to the past (which has nothing to do with their present) in their movies.

They (the NAs) used to be hard to find. Some are being reprinted either in paper or digitally. There were quite a few duds in that series, I believe one of my favourites was The Also People , it had the right balance and the part where the Doctor dances was just right in my opinion. (if I'm thinking of the right book.)

Timewyrm and Cats Cradle series are good (they were the start of the NA series). Lungbarrow and Cold Fusion are a must read. Cold Fusion is a Missing Adventure with the 5th Doctor. Human Nature was a better story in the book than the new series made of it

I could go on for days about Doctor Who. I will say I think the books series help set the table for the new shows with new ideas flushing out what Time lords were, ideas for stories revolving around time wars and Gallifrey destroyed. The television series writer often did what they did with little planing for the future or knowledge of past stories. The fans writing the book found a way to pull it all together.

Oh, Decalog 3 has a great short story by Steven Moffat decades before his turn to helm the series. Better stop myself here.

SPECTRE is obviously a movie where villian is more handsome than Bond himself.
