I never knew he was in the running Ale, until the last moment. That's a new one on me.
I always thought it was between Clive Owen and Craig.
He everyone's choice in 2005 save for one. Our favourite lady overlord only had eyes for Daniel.
Honestly if Cavill had the roll in 2006 I think
Casino Royale would be a much better film, the ones that followed as well.
It's fine if people enjoy Daniel as an action star, he's mildly competent in this arena. He's just not Ian's 007, he's Not Ian, Cubby, and Saltzman's 007 either. He's Barbara's action star in a series called James Bond. If Barbara had the grapes to actually say what she has done, created a action spin off based on the original series, allowing other fans who dislike the Nu Bond the right to opine, I might respect her more. It's not what happened, even if they were to admit it would be denied as the next movie rolled around.
Look at poor MGW, we could pull tapes of him talking about 007, with his opinion of what makes it work (Pre-Daniel) and the recent interviews you would think he had mini stroke right before the camera came on.
We could also pull tapes of Barbara acting like a blushing bride on her wedding night talking about Pierce, I'd rather watch 'Love & Monsters' again, which is complete and utter rubbish.
I don't know if 007 can return to the balance that made it work for so long. In way the farther they get the harder it is to return. The Star Trek series is doing the same thing making it more doubtful real Trek will ever come back.
Thankfully other movie makers are resurrecting some of the spirit of what Bond used to be, maybe one day Barbara and her brother will be temped into nostalgia and indulge, rather than try to put often bad homages to the past (which has nothing to do with their present) in their movies.
