I agree with you there Kris. My Dad used to always go on about Moore being wrong for Bond when I was younger, bearing in mind my Dad was a huge fan of the books (he got me into them) and also Connery, so I grew up thinking Moore was wrong for Bond. It didn't help that I wasn't too keen on his later films like OP and AVTAK either. Actually, AVTAK was the first Bond film I ever saw at the cinema.

I remember being genuinely excited when Dalton was announced as Bond, and that he wanted to take the films back to the books. I loved both TLD and LTK wwhen they came out, and I've only recently found that same love again with the franchise since watching CR, and now SF. QoS made me worry that the series was heading back into Brosnan/Moore territory again, but I feel the producers have steered back on track again with SF.

It seems like I'm one of the few people here who loves Roger Moore as Bond. :( Along with Sean Connery, Roger Moore was one of the Bonds I used to watch a lot as a kid, and got me interested in the series. I liked his English gentleman superspy portrayal of Bond. I know some people don't care for his silly humour, but that was one of Moore's strengths. He could be placed in the most bizarre situations, and still maintain his character and make it all look almost normal. No, he doesn't closely resemble Fleming's Bond, but to be fair, none of the actors are exactly like the Bond of the books, both in physical appearance and portrayal. Overall, I just think Roger Moore is a pretty cool guy, and I like how he's still very enthusiastic about the James Bond series.

I respect your opinion and all, but I don't see how Quantum Of Solace is anywhere along the lines of the Brosnan/Moore films. In fact, I've been seeing complaints from the people who really liked Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, of how Skyfall is going too far into the classic Bond territory again.

The best of Roger's films are great entertainment, but with the possible exception of FYEO, they're a long way from Fleming. Mind you, so are Sean's last two EON films. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy them for what they are.

QoS in terms of Bond being superhuman, like the freefall scene. Also the plane and speedboat sequences felt like tick box action scenes straight out of the Moore and Brosnan era.

As for people liking CR and QoS, but not SF - I find that truly baffling.

They're people who don't like Bond films. To them, Skyfall commits the ultimate sin of feeling too much like Bond.

But Craig's Bond did survive a Max Zorin-esque plunge in the beginning of Skyfall, which is also superhuman. I don't mind fun or fantasy in the Bond films, but It bothers me when people say that Craig is more realistic than the others when he too has superhuman moments.

Some of the people who liked the direction of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, say that Skyfall is a step backward because it's going back to the classic Bond style. They've even expressed their disappoint of the return of Moneypenny, Q, or any other classic Bond elements. To me, it seems these people either got tired of the old formula, or they didn't care for the series to begin with.

He also appeared to have swallowed a can of spinach immediately after the death of Severine, whereas a few minutes before, he appeared to have been starring in a remake of The Shakiest Gun In The West.

Moore's portrayal of bond was FUN. The current portrayal of Bond is morose and inane and insulting.

Went to Die Hard last nigh, it was a Die Hard movie but with some rewriting it could have done as a Bond plot.

On Deadly Ground was a poorly acted film yet it's much better than watching DC as Bond. With the big news that Han Solo will return in 2 years let's compare DC's 3 Bond portrayals to Ford's 3 Han Solo portrayals. Which hat trick will the world deem more worthy in 20 years? You know my vote.

The news about Han Solo's return has not been officially confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm yet, though it appears the source is credible.

I saw a DVD in the £5 bin of my local Morrisons whose cover artwork looked suspiciously like Skyfall's. Now, since SF isn't out until tomorrow, and wouldn't be in the bargain bins anyway (even QOS didn't get reduced to a fiver straight away), it couldn't have been that. Unfortunately, the store was too crowded to get a closer look. Anyone know if those cheeky scamps at The Asylum have done a mockbuster version? Skymall, starring royalty-free superspy James Band, maybe? It would probably be more entertaining than the real thing, for once.

Judging by their call for pitches, it looks like they're getting out of the mockbuster business and into martial arts movies and movies targeting African-American and Latino audiences instead. Too many lawsuits?

I believe Bond-mania was really big in the late 70s, much bigger than the Craig mass-psychosis we have today.

It was probably the greatest period of Bond-mania since the mid-60s.

Moore was extremely popular after TSWLM in 1977, and MR became a huge hit in 1979 as well.

I think Moore was at his best in the late 70s too, before he started to look a bit too old, about 1983-85.

Those two films 1977-79 were more classic Bond as well, even though they were a bit silly or parodic, whereas LALD and TMWTGG in 1973-74 had too much early 70s movie style, blaxploitation, kung fu, car chase movie.

Personally I've always enjoyed MR very much, although it's the silliest Bond film. It still has a lot of strengths and the humour is really fun despite all.

I think you'll find the BO figures, and global critical reviews of both CR, and in particular SF, will prove otherwise.

I don't think Bondmania went past the 1960s
