Roger Michell was in consideration but foresaw the hell of scripting.English Agent wrote:The strange thing is 'Kris', is that after the general praise for CR, the producers wanted to release QOS in MAY 2008 (remember that?, and with a different director, who eventually left the project).Kristatos wrote:I think the script for QOS went through more rewrites than The Flintstones (John Goodman edition). To update an old Hollywood joke about that film, if an infinite number of monkeys is put in front of an infinite number of typewriters, you get the screenplay for QOS. They didn't even bother to keep track of the changes, it seems, hence things like Gemma Arterton being covered in oil even though the McGuffin in the film had been changed from oil supplies to water supplies.Ale wrote: This of course applies to Bond first and foremost. Leaving aside Purvis & Wade, the people they hire to "polish" are colossal failures for Bond scripts. I do not know what was changed in QoS, but I think quite a few things, and I do not care how much people have praised Haggis: he did a LOUSY job with that one.
So, what i want to know is.......if the producers were ready to film QOS 6 months earlier than normal, then what was the state of the script then.......and how come the script as used for the film further down the line was not very good with an extra 6 months development on it.
Does that mean the original script was even worst, or was completely re-written. Does anyone know?

"We couldn't find a way of making us all happy with the script. It's been through various drafts, but I just decided to say no before I got too far into it"
"It was because in the end I didn't feel comfortable with the Bond process, and I was very nervous that there was a start date but really no script at all"
If Bond 22 had been out in May 08 massacre is the word. Nov 08 had almost no direct competition after WB moved HP to summer 09 because the Dark Knight made them so much money over the summer.
Despite all the talk I do not think there ever was a script ready to go for Bond 22, MGW was promised they would use an idea of his Cubby wouldn't allow them to do years before. That was quickly discarded, and so were many other drafts.
Some like to say the writers strike caused the problems I don't buy that for a moment.
"Once I signed on to do [Quantum Of Solace], we pretty much developed the script from scratch because I felt that it wasn't the movie I wanted to make and started with Paul [Haggis] from scratch,’ he said. ‘And I said to him these are the topics I am interested in this is what I would like to say, what's important to me. And we developed it from there together. Then Barbara and Michael said they liked where we were going and they liked the script."
"The good thing is that Paul and I and Daniel all worked on the script before the strike happened and got it where we were pretty happy with." -Forster
Bond 23 is in the same camp now, they could easily move the date right now and be sure to have the time, they may have to anyway if things continue to stumble along as well as follow EON's modus operandi. Although these turkeys love to play up this anniversary jive.
Mendes has been give full control of Bond 23 it seems, although there is not finished script and no funding as of yet. There still is a process of script approval and location scouting that has to be done. Bond 22 before it was Quark had locations scouted and a lot more prep work done. Mendes could be doing all of the ground work, but then his career is on the verge of tanking and he needs this more than the others.
