Superman Returns
Would Superman Returns have worked with a blonde Clark Kent? and do you think there would have been a backlash if a blonde haired actor had played the part?

Re: Superman Returns
There would have been a backlash definitely. Superman's first introduction to the world was through the comics, so the physical attributes associated with Superman were already embedded deep in the conciousness of all fans. The one good thing about the new actor is the amazing resemblance to the one and only Superman, Reeve who looked remarkably like the comic version.Skywalker wrote:Would Superman Returns have worked with a blonde Clark Kent? and do you think there would have been a backlash if a blonde haired actor had played the part?

With Bond this didn't seem as important. Bond started off in the literary version, and Connery became the Bond of the cinema that people identified with. Cubby then decided to go with a Connery lookalike for OHMSS, but didn't feel it was necessary to do the same for the 70's. Likewise, Dalton was different again for the 80's, so obviously getting a Connery clone was not the answer.

Brandon Routh had an uncanny resemblence to the great Christopher Reeve. I also think Reeves portrayal had such an impact that it would be hard to imagine a blonde Superman. The Sweeney wrote:There would have been a backlash definitely. .
The fact that more than one actor has played Bond in the movies, means there isn't as much of a definitive look for Bond, althought tall, dark and handsome would have been nice in CR.

We should all be thankful that Barbara Broccoli doesn't own the Superman rightsSkywalker wrote:Would Superman Returns have worked with a blonde Clark Kent? and do you think there would have been a backlash if a blonde haired actor had played the part?
