Activision to publish new 007 game in 2011

The latest Diablo 3 beta announcement may be the most well known news from the Activision-Blizzard camp, yet plainly in sight on their 2011 product line-up is the iconic 007 logo. There’s been no announcement for a new Bond 007 game (yet), but this plainly confirms that one is in existence and they plan on releasing it sometime this year.

It’s safe to say that whatever their 007 game is, it likely won’t be released until mid to late Q3 or Q4, unless they plan on heavily pushing the game at E3. Regardless of their marketing plans, as one of the biggest gaming events of the year, E3 is likely where the unveiling will happen at especially because they‘ve already teased the existence of the game in their product lineup. While James Bond 007: Blood Stone only had lukewarm reception, Eurocom’s Goldeneye 007 remake is arguably one of the best first-person shooters available on the Wii. If Eurocom is involved in this next 007 game, which is highly probable thanks to the success of Goldeneye, then we could potentially see another solid shooter coming to the Wii later this year.

What would ultimately satisfy 007 fans would be a multi-console game of the same caliber as the Goldeneye remake. With the great variance in graphical capabilities between the Wii and other consoles, it would be difficult to develop a multi-platform game that looked good on the Wii, while still looking good on the PS3 or Xbox 360, hence why James Bond 007: Blood Stone was developed separately. It may be unlikely to see a multi-platform release if the Wii is involved, but there’s one other factor: the 3DS. While it did take some extra development time to port it, Super Street Fighter IV was released in all of it’s glory on Nintendo’s new handheld system, which is something that couldn‘t have been done equally as well on the Wii.

This leads to the potential of the Wii being overlooked this time around, since Goldeneye is still a popular Wii release, and having the next 007 game being released for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and the 3DS. Eurocom has not recently announced or revealed any serious projects this year, as can be seen on their official website, meaning they likely have something big under wraps for this year. And no, the Rio movie inspired video game doesn’t count. Confirming the speculation that Eurocom is involved is the fact that Bizarre Creations, the maker James Bond 007: Blood Stone, was closed in February. Handing over the next 007 game to a new developer would be risky in comparison to sticking with Eurocom, who already proved successful.

The remaining question is: what will this game be like? The overall failure of Blood Stone means Activision will likely stray away from that approach and focus on recreating the success of Goldeneye. Technically speaking, Activision could get away with making a copycat, or a graphical enhancement of Goldeneye, then release it on the other systems. Since the PS3 and Xbox 360 player demographic is fairly different from the Wii, there may not be too much overlap, but again it’s difficult to judge. The chance of this game being a direct sequel to Goldeneye is unlikely, unless they plan on making another Wii exclusive so soon afterwards. Making a sequel for a game on different systems than the original game is on is rather self-contradictory, so it will likely be a stand-alone, an upgraded/enhanced remake, or have some other method to differentiate itself enough to be considered a separate series, yet be similar enough to Goldeneye to please fans.

What are they on, the goldeneye remake is regarded as one of the worst remakes ( if you can call it that) and too many people have said it's cod fied, craig just like his version of bond has the crappest bond games around, if rare had remade this then brosnans face would be there and more importantly a true remake would've been made, wth did craigs bond suddenly do a quantum leap into brosnans and we're stuck with this monotone, I want to kill myself waah waah vesper guy. :x

The guy who's face is shown in the hud in doom displays more emotion then craigs bond does in the games...gorden frikkin freeman (not knocking halflife) is mute yet we care more about him then craigs bond.

Off topic anyone wish there was an fps of red drawf or an rpg, no one's ever made a game for red drawf and it could work well with the current technology ( ie mass effect 1).
Bond....James bond....Rest in peace (1964-2002)
