'Bond 23' to be shot in India!

I'll move this to the Bond 23 section later.
Times of India
The buzz doing the rounds is that Sam Mendes' 'Bond 23' starring Daniel Craig might be shot in India.

Remember Roger Moore in "Octopussy" — the 13th James Bond film that had a fake Fabergé egg and a fellow agent's death leading him to India to uncover an international jewel smuggling operation?

The movie, which had Moore being assisted in his mission by Indian colleague Vijay Amritraj foiling Kabir Bedi's attempt to kill them while they raced through the Indian streets in an autorickshaw, was released in 1983. And now, the buzz is that the forthcoming Bond film, which has a working title of " Bond 23", might bring the British secret agent back in India again.

For those not in the loop yet, "Bond 23" will be directed by Sam Mendes, once married to Kate Winslet, and will have Daniel Craig play the secret agent. For "Bond 23", Mendes is supposed to work on a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. There have been rumours of Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes to be working in the film too.

In an interview, Dame Judi Dench had said that she would be playing M in the next Bond movie in November. Though she had said that she didn't know the location yet, she hoped that it would be somewhere nice. Now, the buzz doing the rounds is that the Bond makers are considering India as a location probable for shooting. Incidentally, Dame Judi Dench was in India last year to film John Madden's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel".

Said an industry source, "It's at a nascent stage. Everything is being kept under wraps now. Permissions are being sought from the ministry. There have been talks about location scouting down the Konkan Railway line. If all goes well, the shoot might begin end of this year."

Meanwhile, former England cricketer Darren Gough had recently tweeted saying that on a first class flight to Johannesburg on April 6, Sam Mendes and Barbara Broccoli had told him that they would be scouting South Africa for locations of the next film. Tweeted Darren: "Virgin flight was fantastic Sat next to Sam mendes what a lovely bloke and Barbara broccoli James bond owner Can't wait for next film" (sic). It now remains to be seen whether it's South Africa or India that's next on Bond's itinerary. However, an announcement has already been made that the film will have a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.

If it's India, it won't be JUST India. Which has been a shame about Bond films for a long time. Better to stay in one foreign location to get a true dimensional feel of the country.

Hey, the original Little Shop of Horrors was famously shot in 3 days, and is now regarded as a minor classic. But then, it wasn't written by John Logan.
The last two Bond films each have grossed about $600 million worldwide, but given the cost and profit participations to the Broccoli family & others, the movies do not throw off profit on the order of a Transformers or Iron Man. - Hollywood Reporter

Great point. EON could learn a lot from studying Roger Corman. Mainly how not to waste millions of dollars.

The 23rd film in the franchise to be shot in and around the city

James Bond might well be coming to town sometime soon.

A highly-placed source informs that Bond 23, the newest film in the hugely successful franchise will be shooting in and around Mumbai.

"Director Sam Mendes recently made a hush-hush visit to the city along with production designer Terry Bamber in mid-April for the film's recce.

The movie will be shot in Mumbai and Goa during the monsoon season on a month-long schedule," reveals our source.

The crew of the film is an excited but nervous lot. They expect the shoot to be a maddening one, given Bond's fan following here.

India Take One, who also did line production for Slumdog Millionaire, are doing the production for this film as well.

ONCE BEFORE
Octopussy (1983), the 13th film in the Bond series, was shot in Agra and Udaipur. Roger Moore played Bond in the movie which had Kabir Bedi and Vijay Amritraj in the cast.

RECENT SHOOTERS
Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (in Jodhpur on May 6 and May 7)
Ang Lee's Life Of Pi starring Irrfan Khan and Tabu shot in Pondicherry
Brad Bird's Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol starring Tom Cruise and Anil Kapoor
Michael Winterbottom's Trishna starring Frieda Pinto shot in Rajasthan and Mumbai.

Director Sam Mendes has reportedly been scouting locations for the next James Bond film in India to begin shooting as early as June.

According to an unnamed source quoted in an Indian newspaper,"[Bond 23] Director Sam Mendes made a hush-hush visit to Mumbai along with production designer Terry Bamber in mid-April. The movie will be shot in Mumbai and Goa during the monsoon season on a month-long schedule."

EON Productions, which is producing the next Bond film, would not confirm the reports, and issued a comment that "nothing has been confirmed yet."

Goa, a western resort town, was featured in a car-chase sequence in 'The Bourne Supremacy,' while Mumbai was used more recently for scenes in 'Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol.'

James Bond previously visited India in the 1983 Roger Moore vehicle 'Octopussy,' which shot in Agra and Udaipur.

The monsoon season begins in late June and last for about two months.

The India/South Africa rumors make sense because of the drastic budgets cuts - both locations offer wonderful incentives. With the budget under 150m they have to watch the pennies making the movie for close to 100m considering the Broc graft and Danno's salary take a huge chunk of the budget -40 to 50m.

Seeing as this is all a rumor I'd take lightly, however if they are determined to shoot in India (if they are) in June/July/August that is plain insane for a Halloween release.

Indian Bond fans might get a chance to catch a glimpse of Daniel Craig who will shoot in the outskirts of Mumbai for his next 007 movie soon. 1983 film Octopussy was the only James Bond film shot in India.

The action movie will be shot in Big ND Studio located in Karjat in a three-week sp
ell, reportedly.

DanielOscar Award winning director Sam Mendes and production designer Terry Bamber had visited India some time this April for a recce, reported Mid Day.

"The Hollywood movie would start off with an explosive chase scene set in South Mumbai. In the ND Studio, South Mumbai setting of the main road with shops, bylanes and the main traffic signal will be expanded to include the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Crawford Market, too," a source told the tabloid.

This is Daniel Craig's third outing as James Bond.

Next James Bond movie to be shot in South Africa
by Tamas S. Kiss Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

At least half of the planned new James Bond 007 movie is due to be shot in South Africa, sources close to the filming revealed to Budapest Report. They said that they had cotacted top selling thriller author Jeffrey Deaver, who had just recently launched his new book “Carte Blanche” (alias complete authority) in Cape Town. Other parts of the filming are planned for Serbia and Dubai, where the secret agent will also be averting terrorist plots.

The recent book launch in Cape Town, South Africa was carried out in real 007 style, where organizers used a helicopter and the new fancy secret agent car – Bentley Continental GT.

Organizers said that the novel and film are sure to boost a renewed interest in South Africa following the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup spectacle. The film is also expected to capture the attention of at least half the world’s population (about 4.5-bil people), organizers said, adding that it will be a great showcase for South African life as it will weave in the sights, sounds and cultural spectacles of life in South Africa. So far more than 100-mil 007 books have been sold since the birth of James Bond.

Bond will be shooting in the famous ocean front, the neglected townships and luxury vineyards in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek while a climatic scene will be shot on the top of Table Mountain. South Africa’s premium lifestyle television show “Top Billing” also contributed a large portion of their show towards the cause. Lat year due to the soccer spectacle at least 350,000 visitors came to South Africa, alongside thousands who had changed itineraries to coincide with the event. The new Bond fad is believed to attract at least half the number to Cape Town shortly after the book launch and thousands more following the film version of the book, sources said.

Deaver, who was the main attraction of the launch, says that he believes previous novels he wrote, also have had lots in common with the Bond fad. He said he enjoyed the in depth research he carried out on South Africa. He said, “I think know what my fans want.” He promised that after re-reading all the earlier Bond novels he has processed, Ian Flemming’s Bond fans will certainly not be disappointed by the quick-moving twist and turns his latest novel has to offer.

Deaver believes that any book he writes should capture the immediate attention of his readers. He said, “I want a book to be the most intense emotional experience it can be.” He was shortlisted as a potential new Bond author after he had won the 2004 Crime Writers’ Association Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award for his work “Garden of Beasts.” So far he has written 29 novels that saw global sales exceeding 20-million.

The buzz suggests that the opening scene of the 23rd Bond flick will be an explosive chase sequence in Mumbai. Big ND Studio, located in Karjat, will reconstruct the Southern Mumbai shops, bylanes and the main traffic signals. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Crawford Market will also be reconstructed.

Apparently, the Oscar Award winning director Sam Mendes, who’s also directing the latest Bond movie, along with production designer Terry Bamber visited India some time back this April for a recce. They gave a nod to shoot at the Big ND Studio and even decided that the movie will start off with a car crashing volatile chase scene in heavy Mumbai traffic.
Yeah, I saw that in the Bourne Supremacy.

I fear there is some truth to this.
Batman and Star Trek will dominate next year, any word on when the next Trek will be out?

Bond has been dead ever since Pierce was horribly dismissed.

Trek 12 is set to release in June 29, 2012, but recent news said that J.J. wanted to spend more time on it, meaning there may be a delay.

I came across some location dates, they want to be shooting on location in bloody July next year! There are movies shooting now and this fall that are pushing their dates backs and Team EON is trying to pull Bond 23 off by the narrowest of margins, all because of Babs obsession with a taciturn middle-aged actor.

Keep in mind the dates I saw may turn out to be vaporware however it does make me wonder what kind of last minute shitfest Bond 23 is going to be.

Next year? I think they filmed CR January-May 2006 and released it in November 2006, so rushing is no problem for the green vegetable. It's a problem for the movie going public.

Exactly. I know this is putting the cart before the horse but.. Bond 23 has "disaster" written all over it.
