Rachel Weisz And Daniel Craig's Dream House Collapsing?

Rachel Weisz And Daniel Craig's Dream House Collapsing? With James Bond in permanent limbo the next place you’ll be able to see Daniel Craig is opposite Rachel Weisz in a Jim Sheridan thriller called Dream House. Or at least that would be the next place you’d be able to see him if the movie didn’t seem to be in the midst of some sort of coronary arrest.

The thing is Dream House is actually finished and in the can, but we heard a few weeks ago from one of our sources that there were problems and that they might be headed for reshoots this month. Now it seems that may not happen and that leaves the movie well, who knows where. Pop Goes The News confirms that reshoots were the plan, but says that Daniel Craig is now too busy shooting Girl with the Dragon Tatoo to do them and that they’ve been cancelled.

Worse, a different movie with a similar plot, called House at the End of the Street and starring Elizabeth Shue, has just finished shooting. They’ve got competition and while we don’t know if House at the End of the Street is any good, early word on Dream House is that it definitely is not.

Dream House stars Daniel Craig
and Rachel Weisz as a New York-based couple who move to a New England home that was the host of a murder of a mother and two children. Naomi Watts is a neighbor who knew the dead family.

What we’ve heard from our sources who’ve seen it, is that the current version of Dream House is kind of a mess. Specifically they say the mystery is predictable and made even more so by Naomi Watts' character, who's fairly secondary anyway. Our source says, "Craig and Weisz try their best but they are working with weak material, which is a predicable mess and some of the other acting, which ranges from slumming it to down right being laughably bad." Presumably these are some of the things they wanted to fix with reshoots, but if they can’t do that, then what Universal’s left with is a bad movie which would have to compete with another movie with the same premise which maybe isn’t bad. Why bother to release it? At least that’s the question I’d be asking right now if I were Universal.

Right now Dream House is slated for a February 18, 2011 release date. It’ll be interesting to see if they stick with it.

Not surprised in the least. Even if it's a total mess, there'll be a few diehards(not myself, obviously  ) who will see it.Multiple times. and say it's the best non-Bond movie Craig has done.

As for a similar movie being in the works.. that happened with Centurion and Eagle Of The Ninth(now titled Eagle), dueling Roman-legion-in-Scotland movies. Legion kinda sunk like a stone. From what I've heard about Eagle, it sounds quite good, plus I like a lot of the other stuff that the director has done.

Another egghead flop in the making it appears. Why am I not surprised? Hollywood is just as bad as Eon. They keep using the egg-ster in films when his appeal and screen presence is lacking big time. No one cares about him, his films bomb at the box office, so why bother?

Craig doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to his non-Bond films. That's an acknowleged thing. The most diehard Craig diehards will try to tell you that it's not, but it is.

Yeah, like this spectacularly deluded post on AFJB:
Larry Gold wrote:I think 007 can take a little rest, Craig is massive and will stay big. He is a top quality actor, and people will go and see his films. So when the next 007comes about, people will go and see it.

Craig will be happy to do Bond, its HIS Bond, he has made it the success it is

Not surprised this movie is collapsing under its own weight. It was a bad idea to start with if Jim Sheridan were not involved I doubt Craig would have done it.

And the haunted house thing has been done so many times, with varying degrees of success. If you're going to do one, make it scary. That's what we expect!

It has got to be something. Everyone has done one by now I can't see the sense in making another. I think the directors was suppsoed to make it more a prestige film than apparently he did.

UPDATE
Daniel Craig's busy schedule forces film to be postponed

English actor, Daniel Craig's busy schedule has led to postponement of the release of his spooky new flick Dream House.

Movie bosses have been forced to delay the release, as the James Bond star is too busy to re-shoot the scenes, reports The Daily Express.

Studio chiefs had hoped thriller Dream House would be ready to hit theatres by February.

However, their plans were run over when they ordered additional footage only to discover that Craig is fully booked for the rest of the year.

The James Bond star is in popular demand, shooting David Fincher's reworking of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in Sweden — meaning he won't be available to return to the Toronto, Canada set of Dream House until December at the earliest.

Dream House, directed by Jim Sheridan, tells the tale of a publisher who moves his family to a New England estate, only to discover the previous inhabitants were murdered.

If he's not able to do reshoots..I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get released for a few years, or even just shelved. The plot sounds dreadful, anyways.
