Pierce Brosnan's home powered by solar panels

James Bond film star Pierce Brosnan is building a $9 million mansion - and it will be powered exclusively by solar panels and in addition to other ecologically friendly features. Brosnan is going all out for his new home on the Malibu beachfront - a real "license to thrill!"

A close personal friend of the Brosnans says that "Pierce and [his wife] Keely have always been dedicated environmentalists and they were determined that their dream home would set a new standard in being eco-friendly."

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Brosnan will be able to heat the house, outdoor pool and guest cabana and still sell electricity back to the local grid.

In addition, all water will be recycled at the home in a purpose-built plant. The home's waste-disposal system, custom-built at almost $400,000 is a specially built solar-powered revolving compost heap.

A close personal friend of the Brosnans says that "Pierce and [his wife] Keely have always been dedicated environmentalists and they were determined that their dream home would set a new standard in being eco-friendly.

"All the windows are non-glare, insulated glass and there is a centrally controlled climate and lighting system that will automatically turn off the lights if a room is left vacant for more than five minutes.

"The climate control will automatically adjust various rooms to maximize energy savings. It's an 'eco-palace.'

"Pierce has been actively involved in every single aspect, right down to choosing the natural recycled wood for the kitchen benches and the low-flow toilets."

Among the Brosnans' neighbors in Malibu are Cher, Steven Spielberg and Goldie Hawn. One former neighbor is disgraced movie star Mel Gibson, who has recently left the U.S. for Australia. His beachfront home is up for grabs at far below the market price.

Along with the eco-technology, the house is packed with gadgets to make James Bond proud. There is a state-of-the-art security system with pressure sensors and infra-red lights, directly linked to the local sheriff.

The garage holds spaces for Brosnan's Lexus hybrid vehicle and less-than-carbon friendly -- but very 007-style $114,000 Maserati Gran Turismo sports car.
