Daniel Craig is in discussions to star in Jim Sheridan's psychological thriller Dream House, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Written by David Loucka, the story centres on a man (Craig) who uproots his family to a rural town. Problems arise when they realise that their house is haunted and discover that the previous residents were murdered there.
Craig recently appeared in his second Bond adventure Quantum Of Solace and World War II film Defiance. He can next be seen in Steven Spielberg's The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn.
Irish filmmaker Sheridan is the director of Get Rich or Die Tryin', In America and The Boxer. His next movie Brothers, starring Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal, is out in cinemas next year.
No 'bout a doubt' it. Hollywood is STILL delusional that Craig can be the lead in a non-Bond film and show a profit. DE-lusional.
.....which means that he will make at least four more James Bond films. I hope he has a few non-Bond hits.
This is going to end badly. The problem with everything Craig does is he is dull and droll. Exactly why Eon neutered Bond so severely to suit him.
He doesn't have good range, not even a normal range of hack actors like Jeff Goldblum or the run of the mill thespian group at the community college.
The is a very good reason why he has been so forgettable in everything he has done. Bond is the only thing people know him from, but only because it is such a departure. If he had stepped in to do real Bond movies he would have been booed off the world stage.
Golden Compass? *crickets chirping*
The Invasion? *crickets chirping*
Tomb Raider? *crickets chirping*
Elizabeth? *crickets chirping*
Defiance? The few that have seen it think it a was Liev Schreiber film
Here is how Dream House will go, Craig will have absolutely non chemistry with his on screen love interest, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend it will not matter because there will be no sparks.
He will scream in pain more than once or what the audience will assume is pain because of how his face is contorted.
The on screen children will involuntarily wince whenever he approaches them.
Craig will mumble a great deal of dialogue. His pathetic monotone voice will try to convey their dire situation to no affect because it is so emotionless that any terror of fear is left stranded on the pages of the script.
The final twist will be that the family haunting the the Dream House will turn out to be murdered by Craig.
More serious for moment, this is a bad idea for Craig. Beyond the producers of this movie using the titillating it's "Bond" in horror movie spiel, this movie has go nothing to propel it. Craig will not bring in the audience that normally avoids these kind of movies. A Johnny Depp might have a broad appeal but even he is recognized for having limitation on what audiences will pay to see him in. Which is the exact the limitation Craig faces, what the audience will pay to see him in.
This is the antithesis of the kind of movie Craig should be seeking out, he should be expanding his horizons instead he is limiting them. But than again his options were already limited, he can't do comedy, he can't do romance, and he is barley passable in action
Jim Sheridan?
According to IMDB he has 3 in pre-production (counting Dream House)
1. Dream House (details only on IMDbPro)
2. Ikiru (details only on IMDbPro)
3. I, Claudius (details only on IMDbPro)
And 3 in production now
# Emerald City (2010) (announced)
# Black Mass (2009) (pre-production)
# Brothers (2009) (completed)
I don't think people care about psychological thrillers any more. It is a been there done that kind of thing. This movie is going to crash and burn all on its own, nobody needs to help it and nobody can save it.
