what if they started remaking the old films?

Post by paco chaos »

how would you feel if EON started making the next film and it was a remake of Live and Let Die? since the producers are trying to convince us that Craig is closer to Fleming's creation, what if they started remaking the films in the order of the books, and stayed closer to the original stories? just curious, since it sort of made me think that might have been the original idea with Casino Royale being a reboot.

They have ruled it out for the forseeable future. I have mixed feelings about it. LALD would be interesting, since the movie bore only a passing resemblance to the book. But what happens when it comes to the films that were relatively faithful to Fleming's originals, like Goldfinger and OHMSS? Personally, I'd rather see them adapt the Benson or Gardner novels that have never been filmed, or perhaps Colonel Sun.

Why don't they ever adapt the non-Fleming Bond novels?

Maybe they will in the future.
I don't think that they plan on remaking the Fleming books in a more faithful adaption, but I wouldn't mind if they did. The books are top entertainment and I can only imagine how certain scenes would transfer to film. Live And Let Die could be interesting.
I guess we'll have to wait and see what Eon has planned for the Daniel Craig era, then we may have more of a clue as to the direction they have in mind.

They shouldnt remake the stories they already made. In the future when the stories are remade I would like them to be done as complete series (for tv or whatever), set in the time and holding to the books. Seems a high expectation but it can be done and has been done for other books butchered the first time they were made a movie of.

That would be great to see and I'm sure most people would agree. :)

For better of worse Eon already made the movies they made, to go back an revisit them would be a mistake.
For one thing the fierce competition with their original movie, unlike both previous instantly forgettable attempts at Casino Royale, the original Bond movies have a loyal following and would/could cause alienation the fans of first Live and Let Die. A headache IMO Eon would rather avoid.
They should concentrate all of their attentions on creating original stories and stay clear of the quick and easy idea of remaking all of the originals. Sadly coming up with original ideas does not seem to be one of eons strong suits. :?

I took the liberty of adding poll to this thread. I've been dying to try it out.

Wouldn't work, more changes would have to be made to make them fit the present time. Would they have to change "From Russia with Love" to "From North Korea with Love"? I'm glad EON is going to tackle on new stories instead but keep the Fleming elements intact.

I agree with this statement. I was just curious what the general consensus was. I wouldn't have had as much of a problem with Casino Royale starting the timeline over again if "M" had been recast. as it stands for me, I think it's wise to forget continuity in the Bond films.

It would be nice to see a faithful adaption of YOLT, with a 'daft Blofeld' and Bond in the Garden of Death, and of course the hilarious Dikko and Tiger.... and don't forget Kissy (who wasn't named in the film).

Speaking of that, I actually wouldn't mind if they did go for the books that were never faithfully adapted like YOLT, DAF and such. The ones I would avoid are Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball and On Her Majesty's Secret Service because they're faithful enough and I don't think a remake would quite live up to them. However, with a Bond movie faithful to Moonraker, I would accept since none of it made it on screen. Then again, GoldenEye was basically Moonraker novel on screen.

Colonel Sun That would be interesting. I remember rumors years and years ago about using Colonel Sun as source material.

I think Colonel Sun would have been perfect for Timothy Dalton.

Yeah, apparently Harry Saltzman nixed it as part of some personal vendetta against Glidrose, but Salzman's been out of the picture for a long time now.

I would love to see a remake of OHMSS, maybe even set in the 60s, and possibly some of the other ones, YOLT for instance.

Some of the old stories could perhaps be merged into remakes, DAF and LALD could be good.

But this will never happen I'm sure
