Daniel Craig a great actor?
We seem to be having a few arguments over Daniel Craig's acting ability and his star power, so I thought I'd start a thread.
What do you think of Daniel Craig as an actor?

I think there should be an option between one and two. My option would have been "He's one of today's better actors but isn't defining a generation of acting".

The poll has reset even though I thought I could just edit it.

I have only seen him in the Bond films and Tomb Raider. So from those films, I think he is alright but a bit overrated.

Re: Daniel Craig a great actor?
The four films I liked him in were Layer Cake, Munich and of course Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace. I saw I Dream of Africa but he was in a very minor supporting role at that time. I saw Tomb Raider on TBS (first time since seeing it in theaters, it's still crap) and he really didn't look like he was having a blast, apparently he hated it and only used it for the money.
Not interested in Flashbacks of a Fool. I was going to see Defiance with a friend but we just didn't have the time to go out to the movies for awhile. I'll definitely check it out on rental.

Re: Daniel Craig a great actor?
A competent actor but not really star material or very charismatic IMO. He's like British b-list actors such as Mark Strong or David Morrissey, the difference being those actors were not friends with Barbara Broccoli. Prior to the Broccoli/007 bombshell I always expected him to eventually turn into Sean Bean and play baddies. I do think he can act and is ok in some roles (The Trench), but terribly dull in others (Tomb Raider, Some Voices, Quantum of Solace). The PR fluff that surrounds him for his Bond films borders on the comical.

I liked the first two of those as well. I have to confess, I barely remember him in Tomb Raider, Elizabeth or The Road To Perdition. Those are all films which I enjoyed when I first saw them on their initial cinema release (or in TR's case, which were not as bad as I was expecting), but which I haven't seen since and which didn't leave any lasting impressions in my mind.stockslivevan wrote:The four films I liked him in were Layer Cake, Munich and of course Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace.

Tomb Raider was fun. Daniel Craig had a strange role and had to put on an American accent.

The main memory I have of it is the strangeness of seeing Arnold Judas Rimmer as Angelina Jolie's butler.Mr. Big wrote:Tomb Raider was fun. Daniel Craig had a strange role and had to put on an American accent.

Elizabeth is probably the most watchable of his pre-Bond films. I like historical films,so there's that. His part in the film is pretty small, though.

Re: Daniel Craig a great actor?
I have to say I'm shocked.
I thought the results so far would be more one sided. To most of your credit, you do acknowledge that Craig is at least a good or credible actor.
Though I know how bj would've voted.
