I think the Bond producers main goal was to make money, both in the 1960s and today.

Their main goal was not to stay true to Fleming or make good quality films.

The quality of some of the films in the series was good, but they were of course commercial films made with the intention of bringing back a healthy profit.

In some ways though Broccoli and Saltzman were sort of independent filmmakers, at least in the beginning, they cast an unknown actor instead of a Hollywood star to be the first 007, the early films were rather avant-garde in their style, and so on.

All this probably diminished gradually though, and they became more and more focused on appealing to a mass audience.

When Ian Fleming was looking for a name for his newly-created hero, he wanted something dull and ordinary to make him more realistic. He found it on his bookshelf: one of his favorite books was a guide to the birds of the West Indies by ornithologist James Bond.

I know about this of course, I have to say though that the name James Bond does have a certain something, it's not a dull name it has an edge I think.

That villain was one of, if not THE, worst Bond baddies ever What was Eon thinking having a genetic metamorphosis of a Korean into an Englishman, whose voice and face looked nothing like each other? That script was pure trash, yet the film did great at the box office, basically because of Brosnan's popularity then in the role.............James Berardinelli of Reelviews.net said, "This is a train wreck of an action film – a stupefying attempt by the filmmakers to force-feed James Bond into the mindless xXx mold and throw 40 years of cinematic history down the toilet in favor of bright flashes and loud bangs." Of the action sequences, he said, "Die Another Day is an exercise in loud explosions and excruciatingly bad special effects. The CGI work in this movie is an order of magnitude worse than anything I have seen in a major motion picture. Coupled with lousy production design, Die Another Day looks like it was done on the cheap. Gary Brown of the Houston Community Newspapers also described the weak point of the film as "the seemingly non-stop action sequences and loud explosions that appear to take center stage while the Bond character is almost relegated to second string.".............it wasn't Brosnan's fault that the film' writers were off base, yet it cost him a 5th and maybe 6th film, unless Broccolli's lusting for the Cr-egg lout was inevitable................As early as the late 1990s, MGM had originally considered developing a spin-off film based on Michelle Yeoh's character, Wai Lin, in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies. However, despite much speculation of an imminent movie, on 26 October 2003, Variety reported that MGM had completely pulled the plug on this project, to the dismay of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of Eon Entertainment, who were reported to be "clearly furious" about the decision.

it's absolutely true that DAD did spectacular at the box-office because of two reasons:1)It is a Bond movie(it doesn't matter if it's a good one or not) and 2)Brosnan as Bond... actually all of his movies did great because of him-people went to see the movie because he was in them.Skyfall did great because Brocolli sure did give her best to make a hell of a PR.I think DAD is partly(minorly) responsible for Brosnan not coming back.Queen Babs was at first thrilled how DAD made hell of a lot of money(of course she was) and actually told him to come back.Oh,she said how she would be thrilled! Actually,I wouldn't even say DAD has any fault in it.Maybe a little but the other 98% it's Babs all the way.Well,all the EON people who didn't say anything against it...she just threw of 40 years of cinematic history like that...there were always things that made Bond who he is...the charisma,the cool attitude,the swagger,the sophistication,vodka martini,aston martin,girl falling ridiculously easy for him...Sylvia Trench is the prime example when there was a line in CR and Mrs.Dimitrios said how:"You like married women,don't you James?" and he replied :"It makes things easier." Riiight,like any married woman would take Craig as a lover...well,Babs would but she isn't married is she?

David Fincher’s English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo seemed to kick-start a new trilogy, this one with Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in the key lead roles. Tattoo banked $233 million worldwide, which is very good (but not enough to guarantee a sequel). And the director has expressed interest in coming back for at least the second chapter in this trilogy. So what’s the hold up? THR is gently pointing its finger at Craig, who the trade says “wants a pay raise, not a cut, in the wake of Skyfall grossing $1 billion worldwide.” As a result, Craig’s character in the movie – journalist Mikael Blomkvist – might be erased from screenwriter Steven Zaillian’s treatment of the sequel..................(Cr-egg should kiss the ground that any studio even wants him now other than Eon.)

I didn't know the movie grossed so much.I read somewhere else how it flopped on the box office.but other than that...does anyone really know any other movie with Craig other than his so called "Bond movies"?I mean since 2006 he only did like,what 3 movies other than Bond.this one,the golden compass-which flopped and some other who-cares movie...if there's wasn't for Babs and her strange taste in men...

I think Cavill would have been a great choice for Bond.
I never knew he was in the running Ale, until the last moment. That's a new one on me.

I always thought it was between Clive Owen and Craig.

Also, Cavill himself confirmed it AFTER he got the Superman role (Cause unlike others, he is NOT thirsty and exploiting Bond for publicity). Not that I needed his confirmation. I knew the whole story about Campbell being LIVID that he was left with Craig instead of Cavill (if you remember the press conference, you'll see what I mean) and the script having been written for Cavill, quite clearly, some scenes didn't mix at all with Craig because they were meant for an actually young, rookie Bond. A friend of mine was in CR and he knows the Broccolis well... so on that one film, I know far more than I ever wanted to know

Actually,CR was written for Pierce..but Campbell livid because he was left with Craig?Can't say it suprises me.He spoke how Brosnan is a great choice for Bond because all of the classic qualities Bond needs to have and well-Craig has none of them.And what are the things you know?Care to share?

its old news now , back when it was fresh we had word (from the two who know the best ) the movie didn't break even. I'm surprised crag is the problem with the sequel the first stories were how the director was the problem wanting or contracted to get a huge payday , then the director wanted to make 20,000 leagues remake or something instead. The other story was since it didn't make money or win awards like they wanted , the cost had to be cut for parts 2&3 by filming back to back .

I can see Craig after sf demanding more from all his roles but it was James Bond that made the money not Craig . Craig was getting $6 million a movie out side bond I think it was. Problem was they all flopped .

This pay demand May explain why he has not worked in 3 years
