`He has to deal with revenge' - Craig on Bond 22
“I think that we’ve set up an idea now that there’s an organisation out there,” said Craig, when asked where he’d like to see the character go in the yet-to-be-titled Bond 22. “He also has to deal with revenge because he has lost the girl. I think the process [of how he becomes Bond] is still happening. We haven’t finished the [story] arc. Bond is still maybe too headstrong and he doesn’t make all of the right decisions. I want to continue what we’ve set up in the last movie.”
“We made a good movie and I just want another good movie.”
Craig also spoke about that other spy with the initials J.B. “The ‘Bourne’ series … are superb movies. They’ve kind of brought things to a grittier way, which I really appreciate in an action hero. I like to see these people really dig in.”
“I also like the old Michael Caine spy movies that they were doing in the ’60s. The landscape has [also] changed politically, but I don’t think we’re any less confused then we ever were. That’s why people love good action or sci-fi films or even the James Bond series. We want action heroes who might not know all the answers, but at least they know who the bad guy is and can try to get him or them.”
The actor, whose first 007 outing, Casino Royale, was a huge critical and commercial hit last year, also spoke about the pressures of being propelled into the media spotlight. “It’s a huge deal, but [my family] are very proud of me and seem to be very happy. I’ve been acting a long time now and so it’s not like I haven’t been doing things and they haven’t noticed things. This is a big deal, but this hasn’t come out of the blue.”

Yet if he showed no interest whatsoever regarding interviews for the next film, you'd be slagging him off for that too. Guess he can't win either way, eh....Capt. Sir Dominic Flandry wrote:Is Daniel Craig directing the next one or something? He sounds more in the loop than Brosnan was. I think The Sweeney might be more excited about old mungo returning than the rest of us.

I think that's all Craig can do as Bond. He will never really reach the 'cultured' and 'refined' state that James Bond really is. It's the 'wild Bond' that gets the critics crazy over him.I think the process [of how he becomes Bond] is still happening. We haven’t finished the [story] arc. Bond is still maybe too headstrong and he doesn’t make all of the right decisions. I want to continue what we’ve set up in the last movie.
BOND sells, NOT CRAIG
The reboot is a risky area, did Eon need to do it? NO. Did this confuse alot of people? YES.
The Bond character will always be anchored in the values of the 60s

'wild Bond' is not Bond as Fleming wrote him. Getting revenge for Vesper is again not what Fleming wrote. Bond does get revenge for the girls killed usually before the end of the movie/book. Although there is one case where Bond did seek revenge with nothing else on his mind, and it was not even a official mission and he did not have a license to kill. It also ended with him fathering a child and his obituary in the papers.Jedi007 wrote:I think that's all Craig can do as Bond. I wonder who he was seeking revenge for?

Fleming created a unique situation with Tracy Bond. James came close to falling in love with the girls in many of the books. Live and Let Die, the sequel to Casino Royale, Solitare had James feeling things he never felt before. James was close to falling in love with Tiffany Case in Diamond Are Forever.Dr. No wrote:'wild Bond' is not Bond as Fleming wrote him. Getting revenge for Vesper is again not what Fleming wrote. Contessa Teresa di Vicenzo was something new and her loss was devastating to James in a fundamental way not seen before.
Even as an amnesiac James still mourned her. Kissy Suzuk's eventual pregnancy took an abnormal amount of encouragement for a normally libidinous 007.

This is the direction I assumed it would take. And then, of course, the third film will find him returning to New York for the final revelation.“He also has to deal with revenge because he has lost the girl.”
It's also quite similar to Fleming's YOLT, with Bond in Japan seeking revenge for Vesper Lynd.

Oh god, don't say Bond 22 is going to be a continuation of CR. Bond seeking revenge etc. I lost track of what was going on in CR about half way through. I simply won't care by the time the next one comes out. Is'nt this copying Bourne. The Bourne Ultimatum (& Die Hard 4) was much better than CR, better stunts, action and more intense with a better story and acting. Much better than the lame Jet Li & Chuck Norris style action in CR & the cringe enducing scene where Bond falls in love. Unless BB increases the budget for Bond 22 the franchise will fall further behind the Americans.poirot wrote:This is the direction I assumed it would take. James was not in Japan seeking revenge. He was on a diplomatic mission. As we were talking about Bond's wife, James did not come back to some semblance of life until he saw Blowfeld. Then he had mission of his own design that happen to coincide with Tiger Tanaka asking James to kill Dr. Shatterhand.poirot wrote:This is the direction I assumed it would take. But I take your point. IMHO it is a mistake to continue on the crude cro-magnon foot ball hooligan Bond.

The Fake Karate chops on the crane and the obvious stunt doubles for Craig were bad too, i am a black belt in taekwondo and it was painful to see the very staged fights in this one.adam wrote:Oh god, don't say Bond 22 is going to be a continuation of CR. Not really. He was over her and finally got his head back in the game. The Sweeney wrote:Bond utters the very same line in the book too, and still wants revenge too....Felix Leiter wrote:If Bond is seeking revenge for Vesper in the next film why did they even bother to include the 'bitch is dead line' in CR? I know Craig mumbled it in a throwaway manner but...
Still, where did Fleming write about Bond getting revenge for Vesper like he did for his wife?
Continuing Bond 22 from where CR left off and making like YOLT is wrong.

I recall Bond setting out revenge on SMERSH after what he went through in CR.Dr. No wrote:Not really. I also guess we were cheated the first time round with the pathetic, non-existent revenge attempt in DAF after Tracey's murder - maybe EON are trying to redress that now.
