Brosnan came a close second in terms of how he looked, but not his portrayal of Bond, or the films he starred in, which were far from the books. Lazenby was probably closer than Brosnan in that regard, as was Connery and (dare I say it) Craig....

Well,that's just what I read from people I know that certainly read the books.I think when reading the books everybody have their own interpretation and the way they see it.Christopher Lee himself said how Brosnan was the best and closest to the character.I think the things that made him say it are the ones between the lines and aren't so "on-the-nose"..for example that Alec talk in GE:"Spare me the Freud,James..." the hotel room scene when Bond is sipping vodka also and I have to say the whole thing between Bond and Elektra(in the books,Ian wrote how Bond had a soft spot for a bird with a wing down-before we find out how Elektra is the actual mastermind she is the ultimate "bird with a wing down") that's the way I see it.

True. Those scenes you mentioned were probably the closest Brosnan came to the Fleming character, but the underwater tie-straightening, the whole of DAD, Brosnan's complaining of how Renard knew exactly where to hurt him, Brosnan's playfulness and boyishness with Q, etc. where not really in line with Fleming's often gloomy, mostly inward looking character, but like you said, everyone can interpret books differently.

I think Brosnan could have played a very good Fleming Bond had he been given the right scripts, but unfortunately this is where he was let down. There is still so much untapped Fleming material that they could have used, instead of giving him crap like DAD.

I would have loved to have seen Brosnan in some Fleming adapted scenes.

To me the scene in The World Is Not Enough where he dispatches Elektra was as they say Flemingesque.
Valentin Zukovsky using his last shot to damage the torture apparatus was akin to Ian's idea of how to write a thriller. Also the comradeship 007 had wherever he traveled in the novels, like Kerim Bey.
There were aspects of the movie I did not care for however I think over all Pierce's time as Bond he showed a willingness to take Bond in territory the series usually avoided.

Agreed. He had the things that people generally connect with Bond and yet in every movie he made there was something personal. Hell,even DAD although as we all know nothing came out of that. The moment when he kills Elektra and how he touches her face is hands down one of the best moments in the franchise.Even thought the incredibly wrong ending of a movie pretends that never happened. Of course there are moments already mentioned from TND. And also thibgs we learn from dialogue. For example "Enjoy,while you still can." "The very words I live by." This was just spot on. I mean,with the job he has it makes sense. Also you could also say how Fleming's Bond was a man who took refuge in good and luxury living to escape the shadow of death and danger. There is a moment in TWINE where Elektra asks he what does he do to survive he stops for a second and answers:"I take pleasure,in great beauty." Now that was a compliment for Elektra first and foremost in that moment but Bond takes pleasure in great beauty of life. Cars,clothes,food,drinks,watches. This luxurious lifestyle that could be called a "great beauty" to probably feel better. That is why I like TWINE because the dialogue(aside the one that included Jones) was smart and revealed more of characters and relations between them.

Yeah,because the ones that are "Fleminesque" he just nailed them completely(well,IMO he nailed everthing)..

And actually got the role and signed the contract. Pierce first met Cubby in 1981 because his late wife Cassandra was playing a Bond girl. I read how they were playing dinner and Pierce introduced himself as "Bond.James Bond." Cubby after that said:"If he can act he's my guy." That's what it took Cubby to see how Brosnan is Bond. Not his daughter who thinks how British Seagal is the best Bond ever. I was watching documentary and this guy said how they wanted to do the press conference and announce Brosnan as Bond. But then the other house renewed the contract on literary the last possible day. But maybe that was better because then the whole legal dispute came and Pierce woudn't be able to make Bond movies for six years. Oh yeah,that guy said how Pierce seemed like the happiest man alive at that point when he first got the role. I mean... what can I say? If there was an actor who absolutely honored the fact that he got the opportunity to play James Bond. And then years later you say how he'll do another movie because they were so happy with him and all they just booth him OVER THE AGENT.Not to mention how his send-off was a movie that...was DAD.So basically she fires the man who was absolutely honored to do the whole thing to hire a guy who "wanted to get out of it as soon he got in" to quote him. I don't have words for this. Not to mention how the latter is totally and completely wrong for the role and the former was the man who was just born to play it.

As much as I dislike Jeremy Clarkson the BBC made a huge mistake booting him. Top Gear was a big money earner for the network, the BBC now owes broadcasters around the world three episodes that may never be finished partly because James May and Richard Hammond contracts are ending the same time as Jeremy's, this week I believe.

Looks as if Oisin Tymon talked himself out of a job fulfilling Jeremy's drunken threat on his own. The BBC did not do Oisin any favour with the photo they released he look like a sever at the restaurant who messed up then complains about not getting a tip. I doubt this Irish lad will have a job, least not as a producer as the series more than likely crumbles around the BBC bureaucracy.
If they can keep May and Hammond maybe they can pull it out, I doubt it because Jeremy Clarskson was the glue that bound the group together mainly hating him because of his over the top behaviour.

Well, I'm off to record my audition for Top Gear on my phone, I plan to scream "more powah!" while crashing a slightly stolen Toyota Hilux into a thousand year tree at the centre of town.

I used to watch Top Gear towards the end of the original show, and I even enjoyed it for a few years into it's revamped version, but for the last 2-3 years I have not watched it. It's just gotten stale, with the same attempts to be funny. Now Clarkson has gone, if the show gets back to it's nuts 'n bolts format, I might start watching it again.
