Is Moonraker the best Bond movie of the 70s?

The Spy Who Loved Me is my most favourite Bond film of the 70s, but Moonraker comes in a very close second. It's great escapist fun, and the score by John Barry ranks as my second favourite of the series.

I like all of them, even the Connery borefest DAF as compared to the Cr-egg garbage now.

Moonraker is my favourite Moore Bond, and I think it's the best Bond of the 70s.

Many don't like its over the top humour but it's really an underrated film.

The first half is excellent, with the classic pre-credits and theme song ... the chopper flight to Drax's fixer-upper ... the dogs chasing, Bond shotgunning, Bond being very shaken and stirred by Dr. Goodhead in the centerfuge (pity he didn't use his s & s line!), and for once looking like he really had been thru the wringer. This scene was comparable to the 'reality' of LALD's Bond in the chair scene.... the flippancy is gone for a moment. However, Jaws was not Oddjob nor the sumo wrestler in YOLT ... and he could have been menacing, until he tried his dentures on the cable. Still, the latter part is watchable, and somewhere in-between Bond gets to kill a big snake. A nice scene if an anaconda had wrapped itself around him.

I prefer The Spy Who Loved Me, but Moonraker is one of the greatest movies of all time too.

I've watched Moonraker (and tye other classic Bonds) millions of times at Christmas and soforth. Can the fans of the Craig movies really watch them them over and over again; surely they are too dull to watch lots of times.

Moonraker is just such a great, fun, enjoyable movie. I mean, it's got laser guns, space battles, spy action, awesome fight scenes, and beautiful ladies... what more could you want in a movie?

Not to mention the skydiving fight in the beginning is one of the most incredible, breathtaking, visually-stunning action sequences that was ever put to film. Watching that sequence STILL always blows me away. I have yet to see anything that can compare to it!

I like and kinda dont like Moonraker, simply because they made JAWS into a complete joke of himself in the movie. Supposedly....according to Wikipedia....JAWS and Dolly were set to get married in For Your Eyes Only, good thing they didnt go with that.

At least JAWS got better treatment in the animated spinoff.

Jaw is very frightening - killing people with his metal teeth.

I imagine that Jaws and Dolly bought 7-Up after Moonraker.

Moonraker would be the best of the 70s and the Moores except for turning Jaws (who I never liked and was happy when he appeared to be killed off in the pre-credit scene) into a Wile E Coyote character . . . one also cannot forgive the double-taking pigeons . . . I instantly disliked Spy Who Loved Me, Jaws and Barbara Bach and the dippy Carly Simon song being the chief reasons . . . also it was the beginning of the boring Maurice Binder "gymnastics-period" titles probably originally inspired by Nadia Comăneci at the 1976 Olympics. . . so for me Live and Let Die ends up being the best Moore outing (Sheriff Pepper in LALD was fine but he should never have been included in the next film) even if only for the line "Names is for tombstones, baby!"

I sometimes wonder how Ian Fleming would have thought of this adaptation of Moonraker if he were still alive around that time. It probably would have been something like this :

I doubt he'd care, as long as he got his royalty cheque. He wasn't exactly precious about his work.

I wonder if he would be happy they used the name Spy Who Loved Me I know he didn't want them to make the story in to a movie which must mean it is prime material for Bond 24

I don't think Ian Fleming would be happy with Craig and maybe some of the movies he didn't see too many completed.

I'd like to see an adaption of The Spy who Loved Me or Octopussy books - as Bond was not in them much so Craig would not be in most of the movies.

LALD has got to be the worst Bond of the 70s.

Why some fans hold it in such high regard is beyond me.
