Sweeney, I am not a huge Superman fan now, after having experienced Reeve's first 2 films with a positive reaction, and his last 2 films as utter trash. Routh was a total waste in 2006. You cannot be serious stating it's worse that Clooney's Batman film? I cannot watch one scintilla of a second of that garbage.

Believe it or not, this film makes Superman Returns look great.

Reeve will always be Superman, and Brando will always be Jor-El. This new film is a bad joke. And yes, it's on par with Batman & Robin.

I came home with a headache and had to take 2 tablets. The second half is so noisy, its like watching a computer game. Just tons of meaningless CGI. How many times can we see buildings explode, how many times can Superman and Zod thrown each other into skyscrapers. The second half of the movie really is a mess. And the character of Superman is dark, broody, and has lots of issues. If you hated what Craig has done with Bond, and what Nolan did with Batman, then you will really, REALLY hate this.

I stated that problem months ago, hoping Superman's psyche would not be delved into. Sandy Kenyon, the ABC network NYC movie critic, echoed your thoughts Sweeney. He did not like it. He thought it was tooooooo loud, toooooooooo long, and Cavill's Superman had toooooo many issues. Yet, he said the 13 year old boy sitting behind him loved it. As Dalton says to Terry Funk jr. in that marvelous masterpiece Roadhouse, "opinions vary". That is what makes the world go around.

My wife hated it too, yet her younger brother loved it.

Which I think is what sums the film up. If you are young, then you may like this film.

Without going into detail, the mindset of Costner's role was ridiculous, as was the outcome. These modern directors are remaking classic films which points out their lack of originality and how much better these films were when first done. ST 2 was NO The Wrath Of Khan, as this MOS is NO Superman II with Reeve. Both modern versions paled in comparison to their original based films.

Sweeney, you will LOVE this. Variety lists THIS as the all-time WORST comic book film: "1. Batman & Robin (1997)
Although many fixated on the Caped Crusader's codpiece, the real crime here was one of tone, as director Joel Schumacher's cheeky take virtually brought the character full circle from Tim Burton's dark 1989 feature to the 1960s "Wham! Biff! Pow!" TV show. So bad, in hindsight, it might have helped drive Arnold Schwarzenegger into politics."

It had a lot to live up to, and “Man of Steel” certainly didn’t disappoint. The Warner Bros.-Legendary Pictures superhero reboot scored a whopping $125 million Stateside debut, securing the biggest-ever opening in June.

Warners projects that “Man of Steel” actually made $113 million from Friday to Sunday, making it the 18th largest opening of all time, behind 2007′s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” ($114.7 million). The additional $12 million for “Man of Steel” comes from late-night grosses Thursday.

“Man of Steel” also bowed in 25 overseas markets this weekend. (Warners will provide estimates later today.)

I haven't seen the new Superman movie, but then, it's Nolan, so of course it's gonna be rubbish. Superman Returns was quite a headache, as well. The only Superman live-action movie that exists for me is the first one AND the second one. Period. But, unfortunately, the Batman films are quite rubbish, as well. From Tim Burton to Christopher Nolan. Batman never had a proper live-action movie.

There is no originality in Hollywood in the 21st century except for films like INDY 4. Some liked it. Some did not. At least it was original.

It's a trend in the modern media, Kater, Rebooting a franchise is a NEEDED asset nowadays. They reboot anything, any franchise and make it "philosophically arty", disavow any information from its predecessors, make it appealing for the goth/emoist audience, they call it "reboot". It's mindblowingly crazy, quite intolerable. Take the Bond films for example. It NEVER needed a reboot. Does anyone remember how Cubby made it work after "Moornaker ruined the franchise"? (not in my opinion, I LOVE Moonraker) yes, he kept the universe the same by making it leaning to a little more down-to-earth movie which turned out to be For Your Eyes Only, and yet that movie as much realistic as it was, was completely awesome. They could've done that with Pierce, too. But, no... The Bourne Trilogy and its rubbish street thug fans have spread all over the media, and wow it was "appealing" for those wrist-slitting teenagers, "philosophically arty" movies (a la Twilight/Toilet), and that damned Baboon Green-Vegetable Broccoli has been ruining the franchise so bad that made me literally hate Bond. Yes, Bond is dead for me. Batman, well, needed a reboot, but NOT A BLOODY NOLAN EMOISM helming the franchise. Bring Frank Miller or Paul Dini & Bruce Timm to produce and make a Batman movie! But, Superman... it did not need a reboot. Someone could have disavowed III, IV and Returns, and made something that actually IS a Superman adventure. Let's see how Justice League will do.

I personally quite enjoyed it, and didn't really understand all the negativity, but I'd hardly call the fourth film in a series that began in 1981 (and which was conceived of as a deliberate throwback to the old Republic movie serials) original.

The Indy 4 story was original, not a reboot of a prior storyline like MOS and ST 2 just did.
