What was the worst bit in Casino Royale for you?

But if I had to pick one it would be where he abuses the poor barman who asks him how he wants his martini.

Probably the greatest line in the history of the franchise.

Actually it's probably one of the worst.

Thinking about the bar man reminded me of the lamest scene in the history of the franchise. The everybody lets order a Vesper -and boy ain’t that guy with bad hair cut cool.
This belonged in a after school special or Austen Powers.

Austin Powers? Why? The line was a realistic line, not a p!ss take line. The reason I liked it is because it was done in a serious manner. Bond has just lost loads of money, is angry with himself and at that point wouldn't give a toss how his Martini would be.

Just because Craig's delivery isn't tongue in cheek, wink at camera etc. He can do comedy well, as shown in several scenes in Casino Royale and previous films.

I'll give you two examples of well played humour in CasinoRoyale.
1. During the miami airport scenes when Bond is talking to Villiers.
Villiers tells Bond he'll put him on hold, to which Bond replies "thought you might."
It's a well written and well played piece of humour.
2. During the arrival in Montenegro Bond and Vesper are whisked off in a limo. During the journey they go over there cover story. Bond displays his mischievous side by telling Vesper that her cover name is Stephanie Broadchest. With a wry smile and a perfect sense of the British humour.
To say that only Connery, Moore and Brosnan were the only actors to handle the humour in Bond is unfair and unjust.
Although the Brosnan films were full of humour. They were one big joke.

To true BondFanOO7, the old slipping on a banana peel seems to keep too many people amused. But what's not to get. It's adult humour that isn't hard to understand. Of course that may say alot to why people dont get it.

I liked it when Bond went to the bar, turned to the Germans who are looking at him and who's jeep he'd crashed and, with a smile, said "Guten Abend". Subtle, but good.

There were many moments during the film when the entire cinema laughed out loud. The one I recall most is the `sorry, that last hand....nearly killed me.'

For some reason the torture scene got a big laugh too when Craig says `...and the whole world will know you died scratching my balls.'

And even the scene with Craig asking the casino guy if he brought any chocolates with him. Craig's reaction seemed to get a big laugh too.

So I disagree that Craig cannot do comedy.

CR lacked humour and funny moments for me. I remember the examples you've given and at no point did I laugh or smile. We all remember "Do you mind if my friend sits this one out? She's just dead" and some of the classic one-liners. "Thought you might" or Daniel Craig gurning after the chocolate comment is hardly likely to go down in the pantheon of great James Bond quotes and witty moments. He just isn't very funny. Like Timothy Dalton he struggles to be upbeat or cheeky when the situation calls for it.

I forgot James Bond is supposed to be a comeadian.
As for being cheeky, there aren't many of those moments in CasinoRoyale. The only one I can think of is when he's broken into M's appartment, but these are not strong qualities I look for in James Bond.

I found the `cheeky' scene with Craig pretending to work as a hotel porter to drive and smash the car a great moment.

And Craig tossing the keys away casually was perfect too, showing him more than capable of being `cheeky.'

No, Bond is not supposed to be a comeadian (sic) but a playful sense of humour is a trait of the literary character. Three of the cinematic Bonds knew their way around a light comedy scene and could make you laugh with an incredulous facial expression and the other three were no threat to Groucho Marx. I'll leave you to guess who is in each camp.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the scene as written or the way it was played but (and this might be just me) I had a sense that this was a joke written for a young Bond and would have had a funny subtext to it with a young whippersnapper Bond. With Craig it seemed slightly jarring. But anyway, this was a nicely written scene if you didn't feel that way.

Or is it that it's Daniel Craig in the tux?
Would the scene have worked better with Brosnan or Connery?
I can't see how such a simple scene can fail for you.
The worst scene for me in the film was the collapsing villa. I think they could've done something better. Though what that could be I don't know.
It just didn't work for me.
