Who would you have cast as James Bond in Casino Royale?

With hindsight I'd have moved for Christian Bale before the Batman people. Without it I'm not sure what was wrong with Gerard Butler. Did they even test him?

One of the young Bonds I suppose. I'm not sure what happened to Butler either.

I would have cast DC, but just better than they did.

I think Craig was a great Bond, I don't think Clive Owen would have worked.

Clive Owen is not right for Bond, neither is Hugh Jackman.
Christian Bale would most likely be able to give a decent Bond, but after seeing CasinoRoyale I think Daniel Craig did better than expected.

Jackman although I like some of his work has a similar kind of character and acting style to Pierce Brosnan. He would merely keep the franchise alive or worst case scenario kill it off.
Clive Owen is a better actor to Jackman in my opinion, but he hasn't displayed in any of the work I've seen of his anything that has made me think he could do it. He's even gone on record saying he didn't want the Bond role. What could be worse than a guy who doesn't want to play Bond?

I think Clive Owen has a very dry and drawling delivery, making him sound bored and half asleep, his face gives off that impression too. In my opinion of cause.

What, like Daniel Craig, you mean?

The way Barbara Broccoli talks, it sounds like she had to practically hold a gun to his head in order to make him accept the role. And, even after she agreed to change the entire franchise to suit him, every interview I've seen with him contains some snide remark about how he's too good for Bond and should be playing Hamlet, dahling, not keeping the proles entertained.

You must have seen some very different interviews of Craig to the ones I've seen then.....

If we didn't have Craig, I'd have been happy with one of the other final four.
Sam Worthington.

Goran Visnjic was not my idea of Bond, and Henry Cavill is far too young. But I think in years to come he may have what it takes.
Gerard Butler might have been a good choice too. Not sure what happened with him.

Remember the spurious 'Butler is new Bond' headlines of 2000. Butler says they were the result of a joke or something but Eon didn't think it was funny. He appears blacklisted to me because he was a notable omission from the Casino Royale tests.

after having seen 300 i find Gerard Butler to be at the top of my list to play James Bond. something about him reminds me of Sean Connery.
but I also liked the idea of Clive Owen after I saw Sin City.
Christian Bale is also a favorite, but i think it would be redundant to have the same guy play both Bond and Batman.
