Oscars 2013: James Bond actors won't be reuniting on stage.

Post by Goldeneye »

http://entertainment.ie/cinema/news/Osc ... 168328.htm
In MORE disappointing movie news today (first Toy Story 4, now this) it appears the actors who we've grown up watching save the world against a barrage of gold-toothed villains will not be reuniting to mark the 50th anniversary of James Bond at the Oscars.

Though it was never confirmed by Oscar producers, we were all lead to believe that as the Academy paid homage to half a decade of Bond, we'd get to see Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig all together on the one stage. Then came the rumours that Sean connery wouldn't be involved, what with his dodgy history of not getting on with Bond producers.

Now, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have denied that any of it will happen. Speaking to Deadline, however, it seems all is not entirely lost; they've still got something up their sleeve. "It's something else, something very unique and very exciting, but no, we're not getting the Bonds together".

Yeah, that sounds about right. The general uninformed public wouldn't give a $#!+ about the other three for being "uncool" (Moore) or "forgettable" (Lazenby & Dalton), so if Connery THE ORIGINAL and Brosnan the Deposed-in-favor-of-the-Almighty-Craig wouldn't show up to make the New Guy/Imposter look good like Babs would want them to, then why bother?

It was unlikely that Connery would have showed up anyway. I think the last time he was involved with anything Bond related, was when he provided the voice talent for the From Russia With Love video game.

If they couldn't get Connery I wonder if the others besides Dalton and Moore thought it was worth doing.

I think I'll watch the rest of The Fast and the Furious film series (only saw 1 and 2).

What the Oscars’ Bond Montage Should Have Been

Post by Goldeneye »

http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/201 ... video.html

Despite Shirley Bassey’s stunning performance of “Goldfinger,” the Oscars’ tribute to 50 years of James Bond was disappointing at best—too loaded with weird visual effects to capture the thrill of the films’ action, and missing the quippy dialogue that makes the character so beloved.

Happily, over the weekend, Kees van Dijkhuizen Jr. uploaded his own montage that does justice to the iconic spy’s real charms. Enjoy.

Too Craig heavy for my taste also skips over Moore for the most part, Dalton and Brosnan get more time and both have fewer movies..

Oscar’s tribute to James Bond goes bust

Post by Goldeneye »

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/2013-osca ... 56843.html
By Matt McDaniel

Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film, "Dr. No," which exploded onto movie screens in 1962. It also saw the arrival of the most successful Bond adventure of all time, "Skyfall." So it was a natural that the Oscars would salute the most enduring film franchise in history.

But like a nuclear bomb at the end of a 007 movie, the tribute didn't go "Boom!" It fizzled.

Former Oscar-winner and Bond girl Halle Berry was a fine choice to introduce the segment, having straddled both worlds previously. But we should have known something was up when she said that in keeping with tonight's theme, they would be saluting the music of the Bond series (and not, you know, the movies).

This lead into a montage of clips from Bond movies of the past. There were plenty of clips of Sean Connery and Daniel Craig, but Roger Moore was pretty underrepresented considering he played 007 seven times. The editing wasn't anything special, and for a tribute to the films' music, they only featured the classic Bond theme and an instrumental version of "Live and Let Die." Then Shirley Bassey, the 76-year-old chanteuse who performed more Bond themes than any other singer, came out to sing the greatest of all title songs, "Goldfinger."

Bassey received a standing ovation from the crowd, but then the tribute ended and they went to commercial. Which left the question: Where were the Bonds? Every actor who has played 007 on screen is still alive. Connery has kept a low profile since retiring, but he's also the only Bond to have won an Oscar. All the other actors participated in last year's documentary about the series, "Everything or Nothing." And there has never been an assemblage of all 007's in one place. How great would it have been to see Connery, Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig — in tuxedos, of course — standing on stage together........................

Considering that he recently passed away, they should have featured the Nobody Does It Better or Bond 77 theme in honour of Marvin Hamlisch at the tribute. But then again, they did a poor job of representing John Barry, and some of the Bond actors as well. Honestly, they should have just got some Bond fans to put together a nice tribute video, seeing as they would have put more quality into it than these so-called professionals.

Yes, the whole "all 5 Bonds (and Craig) on stage" thing.

But was that ever a real idea someone tired to implement or was it the obvious thing to do everyone assumed would be done?
