What if Dalton continued into the 1990's.

Post by Daltonite Toothpaste »

There's one for Connery and one for Brosnan, so now i'm starting this for Dalton.

I can't imagine Dalton staying for 5 more Bonds after LTK, but I think he could have made 3 more films. And if the leagal troubles didn't arise after LTK, Brosnan still could have been Bond in the 90's, just starting 2 years later in '97. What say everyone else, more Dalton, yay or nay?

I don't buy the line that people wouldn't have gone to see Goldeneye if Dalton had been in it. Poor old Tim was blamed for the failure of LTK at the box office, but I think it was a combination of things: poor marketing, the decision to release it in the summer, when Bond films don't do as well, and (in the UK at least) the 15 certificate. And the 6-year hiatus was the result of legal wrangles at MGM, not LTK's box office performance. I think Tim would only have done one more film, but Goldeneye with him as Bond and a John Barry score would have provided more of a sense of continuity with the older films.

OTOH, Cubby had passed away after GE, so chances are, if Pierce hadn't become Bond when he did, the mini-Brocs would have been running the whole show and we'd have ended up with Sean Bean as Bond in TND, assuming that he hadn't been cast as Trevelyan as a consolation prize for not getting Bond, as he was in our timeline.

I prefer Dalton's darker portrayal of Bond over Craig's. So it would have been nice to see Dalton settle into the role and further establish his Bond character.

It would have been nice with a few more Dalton Bonds, although I don't think LTK was a particularly good film, in fact personally I think it was really mediocre in every aspect.

TLD was very well made on the other hand, and Dalton made a great debut as 007.

In a way TLD was the last true Bond film actually, and this was 25 years ago.

Like the recent Craig films, LTK didn't really feel like a Bond film. LTK felt more like an 80s action film.

All of the Brosnan films were so-so, they had some Bondian elements but they mostly felt tired and cliché-ridden.

I also think Brosnan weren't as good as Bond as he could have been, for some reason something was lacking.

But yes, Dalton could have been the Bond of the 90s as well. I don't know how the films would've turned out though, but I'm sure they'd have an audience regardless of quality.

Btw, I saw TLD in the cinema in 1987 and it was a fantastic experience.

I also saw LTK in 1989, and to me it was a huge let-down from the previous film.

Connery's comeback NSNA was a similar let-down in 1983.
