Nominations are one thing, winning another, I was just reading a story about how the big guns are just now rolling out, it a tough year to compete. doubt the academy would ever consider Bond seriously unless he dies at the end.The Sweeney wrote:I think Adele may have a chance, and maybe Dench and Bardem too for nominations.Kristatos wrote:It hasn't been nominated for anything yet. Oscar noms are announced on January 10th, unless the Mayans were right. Indiewire.com in its Oscar predictions lists it as a "possible spoiler", but not among its top 10 predictions for a nomination. I think it's more likely to be nominated for Best Cinematography, given that Craig seems to have taken second billing to Roger Deakins. The Saint 007 wrote:We truly live in an era where insanity reigns supreme. Great news Sweeney. Now that Cr-egg is locked in forever, how can Eon top this next time with no anniversary hooplah?

I predict that Bond 24 will be another boring load of old shite with another charisma free performance by compo lookalike Daniel Craig.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Sweeney/Willy, mate, I didn't forget, came down to being too short on time. I'm looking at some other data but I probably won't dive into it until later.
I used the tickets sales with a fair 2012 adjusted ticket price. Had to get some opinions as to what fair is for a apples to apples comparison. As I said the figures someplaces are using is inflating the take but are not accounting for ticket sales as a result they are inflating the movies to a 2004 level or there about. I left off LALD for the usual reasons.
MGM/Sony/EON managed to sell the 50th Anniversary quite well, the audience was trending older than usual meaning the lifelong fans made the pilgrimage. I don't think the Olympics had the impact in the US you suppose. UK it probably did, here it wasn't a wowing moment. Adele was a proper choice even if the song was lacking. I think she had more of an impact than the Olympics which is to say good for attention but not a deciding factor. Good reviews and word of mouth did more, also the first time Bond had real competition in ten years and it preformed. Attendance went up, they did they job they set out to do even if the tools at hand were lacking.
The high end expectations I had were in the CR FRWL range. I expected a TND DAF take based on the attendance of the last film and how the market had been reacting all year.

I think the concept of an outlandish villain in a huge Ken Adam inspired volcano set, with a few more gadgets, in a more traditional type Bond film, but sanitised with a Chris Nolan type reality check (if that makes any sense)...Mazer Rackham wrote:What? Yes...it has been 'Twilights' theatre count advantage that has kept it just above Bond in recent days...until now that is!The Sweeney wrote:Skyfall was number one in the states on Tuesday finally topping Twilight.

'Twilight' films gross massive at first...but then quickly fizzle out like a firework!
Bond is also back at the top of the UK boxoffice in its 6th weekend.............a quite unusual feat to achieve!

Yeah we've talked about it when another paper had it earlier, one thing Mazer said is he thought the early numbers of what was it? $16 million? were low ball. Guess they were.English Agent wrote:According to a news report by the 'Daily Mail' yesterday....DC is to be paid £31 mil for his next 2 Bond movies....thats $50 million bucks.

Strange how it is a great thing for Craig when it was Pierce asking less than $20 he was a greedy SOB.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
It's the 50th anniversary, and James Bond is being pushed in the eyes of the public like crazy. On top of that, critics are praising Skyfall as the best Bond ever, and there's the promises of how it will be more along the lines of a traditional Bond film. So of course it's going to make a ton of money. If the producers would have taken the anti-Bond Quantum Of Solace direction again, I can assure you it would have been nowhere near this successful. Even though the producers hate classic Bond, they still know it holds more value and will bring in big money.
