Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I've seen people on IMDb say that the gunbarrel at the end of Quantum Of Solace is a symbol of Bond transitioning into the cool spy we all know and love. The average viewer, on the other hand, will see it as the filmmakers being complete fools. I'm a James Bond fan, but I must say that some of these so-called "symbols" are just going a little too deep, and it just comes across as ridiculous artistic creativity to most viewers.
And I'm not hesitant to say that I think Quantum Of Solace is the worst Bond film. Like I said before, it's not even passable as a standalone action film, and it's so boring that it can even put an insomniac like me to sleep. Seriously, I was yawning throughout the entire film, and I even slept in the next day. I consider myself to be an open-minded person, and I can find quality and entertainment value in Bond films that some consider to be average or bad. But I can't find any good qualities in Quantum Of Solace. Even when there's something that does have the potential of being somewhat good, it's ruined by terrible filming.

I'll be curious to read the reviews from the UK. I'm sure places like MI6 will be full of fanboys praising it to the high heavens.

There have been multiple stories about Quantum's script, not all of them consistent.

Maybe Skyfall begins with a baby crying in his crib, a cherubim child looking suspiciously like Sean Connery. A shadowy figure cloaked in darkness hovers menacingly over the child, a withered hand caresses the child's cheek in a failed attempt to sooth it. A blur of motion and flap of a cloak the room is once again empty, the child is no longer crying, the camera moves in on the crib, its handsome occupant now gone replacing him is a baby with a serious pout, piercing blue eyes of a serial felon, and long lock of blond hair curling above his forehead. Lightning flashes as the rain patters against the window a word carved on the stone facing is illuminated.....SKYFALL. 40 Years later the occupant of the crib unknowing re-enacts the same scene at the Prague orphanage, this item the child is sleeping soundly, dark panda like markings over the child's eyes add to the sleeping innocents adorable nature. The scowling curmudgeon leaves the room after pouting meaningfully at the child. The name on the foot-board of the bed reads LYND. A light flashes, the fumbling man with a harsh face Father Time took a bat to clumsily flicked a light switch in the hallway. He had stumbled over a dead body in the dark hallway, one of the three men and two women had had killed infiltrating the orphanage (Open to the public weekdays 8am to 8pm ). Morosely he wonders why those people had to die.

"Those were the days when we still associated Bond with suave, old school actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore,"

There seems to be a lot more territories for Cr-egg than Brosnan overseas. How can they compare the 2 box offices then?

DAD, Brosnan in general did great business but the world got bigger along with the prices. Connery is king of Bond for Bond to do what he did in the 1960s it would be like a Bond movie doing Titanic numbers.
I don't know if anyone else remember this but there was a small scandal about Bond being Army instead of the Navy for CR. There Vesper's line in the movie but the bio put up by the movie company had Bond listed as Army. When it was noticed it was erased anybody who thought it meant anything bout the reboot was condemned.
It doesn't bother me some people like Craig, I do mind when they were telling me I wasn't a Bond fan because I didn't like him or the reboot. There's less of that today maybe it's time passing. Or maybe it's become ok for people to have differing opinions.
It does bother me that Bonds become people as fans of a franchise regardless of other factors. I was a fan of the movies, franchise didn't mean squat to me, I wasn't aware of Eon as a company until CR and the questionable decision of hiring Craig.
In the long run it probably doesn't matter who was Bond from 2006 to 2012 or 2016, it does hurt my enjoyment of a series I used to enjoy but I believe Bond will be back some day just as we were promised in 2002.

I think this goes both ways Doc. It irks me when I hear certain fans saying only true Bond fans could not possibly like Craig as 007, and anyone who does are not real Bond fans, but are more Craig fans.Dr. No wrote: It doesn't bother me some people like Craig, I do mind when they were telling me I wasn't a Bond fan because I didn't like him or the reboot. Personally, other than Layer Cake and Munich, I cannot stand any movie Craig has made outside of Bond.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I think the line in the sand gets lost. It's a reboot so all the movies before it are poured on to the sand, some accept that and are wiling to go with it. Others like me find it hard to see where the Craig series has much to do with the Bond series of record. Maybe it has nothing to do with it but it hard to tell if it is supposed to be that way.The Sweeney wrote:I think this goes both ways Doc. I don't see the same character in Craig's movies I first came to like watching Dalton earn his stripes in Afghanistan and then take it to new heights in LTK. It's technically not the same series but it's supposed to be the same character. Some have an easier time with Craig throwing a friend in a dumpster which Dalton would never do, and a guy who doesn't give a d**n bout his drink. Dalton many get pissed but he'll order something worth drinking.

Did you see Girl the the Dragon Tattoo? That's another one that divides people, I think the remake came too closely on the heels of the original movies. Some love the Girl hate Craig, some love Craig and hate everything else about the movie.Personally, other than Layer Cake and Munich, I cannot stand any movie Craig has made outside of Bond.
Kind of a sweet revenge both stars of the original movies got big blockbuster roles, not that they'll keep it up they probably wont.
One last thought on the reboot maybe it they had gone with a really young actor it would be better, Lazenby was 30, Connery was 32, after them is was actors in their 40s for most the the series. Maybe if they had gone young like they original wanted for Dalton and Brosnan it'd be different. Imagine Dalton at 25 in OHMSS? He wouldn't have quit either. Brosnan at 34 would be interesting too.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The dumpster thing I had issues with, as it was supposed to be Bond thinking on his feet, making out like Mathis had been mugged for cash, shot and body then dumped by some hoods, so Bond was covering his tracks. However, the way it was implemented was poor to say the least. It cane across like Craig couldn't give a toss about his mate, and was even taking his last money off him before throwing the body in a dumpster. Very badly executed, even if the idea itself was Flemingesque.Omega wrote: I don't see the same character in Craig's movies I first came to like watching Dalton earn his stripes in Afghanistan and then take it to new heights in LTK. I think Craig's character is closer to the early Connery flicks, and Dalton in LTK, but light years away from the interpretation of Moore and Brosnan.

Bond throwing Mathis' body in the dumpster was one of the more "WTF?!?" moments in the Bond films(and there are plenty of them besides that!)

It goes both ways I guess. I believe there are plenty who don't like Craig who can accept some do like him were as when CR first came out it was heresy not fall in line with the franchise POV.The Sweeney wrote:I think this goes both ways Doc. Franchise fans bother me because it become less and less about the characters or quality of the films. I think if the fans critical of Bond had been paid attention EON would have made some better movies they squandered tow actors who brought a lot to the table in the 80s and 90s.

i don't like it either (one of the several reasons i don't like about QOS).But for me, Bond CGI surfing is the lowest moment in the Bond films, second only by razzies nomination for worst screen couple (TWINE). It very embarrassing for Bond film to get nominations.carl stromberg wrote:Did you enjoy the CGI parachute jump in QOS?tehmanis wrote:katied wrote:Bond throwing Mathis' body in the dumpster was one of the more "WTF?!?" moments in the Bond films(and there are plenty of them besides that!)

Ugh that parachute jump in Po. I mean QOS. Fake as all get out. I know CGI is an essential part of movie making, but some directors use it to the point of laziness.

I don't like CGI effects in Bond, it's better to have the amazing stunts done for real. The real-life stunts is what gives more memorable qualities and entertainment value in the Bond films. With all the money that was spent, as well as all the fancy technology we have nowadays, I don't understand why the CGI effects looked so lousy In Die Another Day and Quantum Of Solace.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Star wars wen all digital for almost anything but Lord Of the Rings shows how to mix both elements successfully. Bond does need CGI for some FX but it doesn't need a lot of it. Modeling and traditional FX works better I think.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I preferred the olden days when models were used in movies. CGI is great as is means many things can be done in movies but sometimes it looks awful.
