"100 Thousand Dollars!"

Post by stockslivevan »

I remember before CR was released, some fans either doubted or believed that the new film would top DAD's unadjusted gross. I happened to be the former. I mean how could a brand new Bond top an already established Bond's fourth film? DC was the answer, topping DAD.

Suddenly, the goals have shifted for those who doubted CR would top DAD's unadjusted gross, now using the unreliable inflation and such instead of ticketsales (only noting the US ticketsales of course).

This really reminds me of a scene in Lethal Weapon. A drug dealer offers Mel Gibson a price and of course Gibson says modestly "Well alright". The drug deal smiles thinking he'll milk the guy's wallet dry. Gibson pops out his wallet and has a bunch of hundred dollar bills to the drug dealer's suprise. Gibson starts counting the bills and the dealer starts to seem frustrated yells "Hey, wait a minute!" and Gibson politely says "Would you mind please? I'm counting the money... 8 hundred, 9 hundred-" Then the dealer slams on the table screaming "100 thousand dollars... 100 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!"

Was anyone suprised by Casino Royale's $100 million boost? I know I was.

Good thread Stocks.
I don't think even Sony or Eon could've predicted that CR would do so well.

I wasn't. It was a Bond movie, the first for four years. No one knew who Craig was, and his face was obscured in all the promotional material.

Are you suggesting that only Daniel Craig could have achieved that result?

Nope, just anyone who had enough talent, charisma and range like Craig. Come on, you expected CR to boost $100 million from its predecessor?

I'm not sure that you can use charisma and Daniel Craig in the same sentence. I believe that Casino Royale did similar business to Die Another Day in the US market. There was a huge boost in overseas takings. I don't think this was down to the casting of Mr Daniel Craig and any other Bond would have achieved a similar result.

Sure I can: Daniel Craig has enough charisma to play Bond. I've heard it myself from other people, including my mother who was at one point an Anti-Craig before actually seeing the film.

Too bad there's no way to prove that ANYONE could have been cast and the results would have been more or less the same worldwide. For now, it's rather redundant.

The casting of Richard Griffiths may have seen a downturn in revenue.
Bring back Bond!
