I thought most of it worked. LOVED the Queen, and the Corgis(could have left Craig, though!). Mr. Bean had me ROTFLMAO.

The scary thing about the Craig skit was that he didn't look that much taller than the Queen (who is notoriously small). And Beckham did look much more Bondish than Craig, a presenter even made that point on the radio last night when I was listening. I thought the opening ceremony was great. It was much more informal and tongue-in-cheek (to the point of almost sending up Olympic opening ceremonies) than that authoritarian slightly sinister and overblown Chinese one where they probably bulldozed entire villages to build half the stadia. The way they lit the flame at the end was amazing. The fact that it was eccentric in parts and probably bemused foreign audiences at times was part of the fun. The history stuff maybe dragged on for too long but the industrial revolution section was clever when the rings levitated and sparked. I don't think it was making any particular point about Britain other than to celebrate some notable historical events and modern popular culture and music.

I agree with your analysis of the ceremony James!

Americans proved how ugly they can be by thinking Kenneth Branagh was dressed as Abraham Lincoln(he was Isambard Kingdom Brunel) and that the British were singing the wrong words to My Country 'Tis Of Thee. True story.

No Doctor Who :( A materialisation sound is better than nothing.
A video montage which very briefly showed all 11 Doctors was approved but we were told it may not be included which was clearly the case
It was a good show highlighting the history and contributions to world culture. It was about London last night from here on it's about the athletes / Olympics.

Yes, I think the show overran slightly so they dropped it.

I hear NBC removed the tribute to the 7/7 bombing victims from their broadcast in order to cut to Ryan Seacrest interviewing Michael Phelps :cuss:
Could you imagine the uproar if the games had been held in New York and they cut a tribute to 9/11 victims?

You can only pretend to walk as a human being so much before the inner simian being within takes over. I assumed Cr-egg would be walking along side the Queen dragging his knuckles :!: Another still photo from Bond 23: http://pmcmovieline.files.wordpress.com ... .jpg?w=630 New video too: http://movieline.com/2012/07/28/bond-sk ... ics-promo/

Sea-crust and Lauer are two buffoons who I cannot understand command the salaries they do with their lack of talent and no appeal. Phelps looks done by the way. He is NOT what he was.

I don't know if Mr Bean is known in China, but he is known in many countries all over the world, which is probably why they used him.

"Warner Brothers’ $250 million sequel is an utterly HUGE movie.
It earned $64.1 million in its second weekend (a 60 percent drop).
It has grossed $289.1 million after ten days.
This total is less than the The Dark Knight had earned at the same point in its run ($313.8 million), and that’s fine.
This total is also less than the The Avengers had earned at the same point in its run ($373.1 million), and that’s also fine.
Overseas, the film has already grossed $248.2 million, and its headed for a finish between $900 million and $1 billion worldwide. That weekend drop indicates that Rises won’t have the same legs as The Dark Knight, which ultimately found $533.3 million, so a domestic finish in the $450 million range seems likely. Many who expected the film to earn Avengers-sized numbers are pointing to the tragic Aurora shooting as the main reason for the film’s lower-than-expected business, but at this point, I believe that word-of-mouth is a bigger factor. While the film scored an “A” CinemaScore grade, critical reviews are not nearly as strong, and Bane is a less dynamic/marketable villain than Heath Ledger’s Joker. Still, as I keep reiterating, Dark Knight Rises is an enormous hit." "The opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics scored the event's biggest U.S. TV audience ever. NBC's telecast of the event drew a massive 40.7 million viewers, topping the 1996 Atlanta opening ceremony (39.8 million) as the most-watched beginning to a summer games since they were first televised in 1960." (This most likely affected Friday's USA TDNR totals too and will be little factor going forward now.)

Tobey's Spider-Man 3 did $890 million worldwide with no Imax and no 3-D to bolster it. Garfield's version is at $654 million, and fading fast, including Imax and 3-D. It is $236 million behind Tobey's film with higher priced tickets now as well. The question remains, what was the point of rebooting a franchise, spending the same amount, and earning a boatload less with fewer admissions? Pascal would say this was a success. That's the problem with studio heads who are clueless. FBF, what say yee to this? These are the same morons running Bond partially.

Yes, in reality the new Bat film is doing extremely well, considering the awful shooting.......and now that the Olympics is on, i had almost forgotten that the film was out. I think the Olympics will distract potential cinemagoers to seeing the film in the next two weeks, as people sit at him cheering on their sportsmen and sportswomen! I think i will see the film, but it maybe a while yet.

I will see the film sometime over the opening weekend....then i can report to you all how the film turned out.

Putting aside the Craig issue............i hope the film is at least enjoyable........the last film QOS was one of the worst cinematic experiences i have ever had.
