Guys mom says they got the right guy, how f'ed up is that!? If she knew he was this nuts why didn't she do something about him?!

I can't see this guy not being on someone radar. Got to be some telling psych reports somewhere. Places that failed to accept him for whatever reasons like Army or Marines, McDonald's.

In his mom's defence, there's very little she could do. She may have seen this coming, but unless she had actual foreknowledge of his plan, she can't exactly call the police and have him arrested for a crime he might commit.

What happened today makes me sad and sick. I want to see it, but don't want to deal with being under armed guard the whole time. It's getting really bad when they have to put armed guards in there because of the potential of a$$hole copycats. :cuss:

I'd rather see armed police around than spend the whole film worrying about some nut with an assault rifle going postal.

Probably an overreaction, since as far as we can tell, the gunman was a lone nut and not part of some terrorist campaign targeting the movie, but completely understandable nonetheless.

Yes very sad and tragic......i know America has a gun culture, but it still makes one wonder how anyone can just acquire guns, smoke grenades, gas masks etc. Dont the owners in gun shops in the US ask people the reasons for buying these items in the first place?

This is the first time the Queen has ever enaged in a fictional scenario on camera.

Sir James is then given a special mission, to open the London 2012 games. He heads outside and jumps into a waiting chopper, emblazoned with a Union Jack. This then speeds up the Thames, flying underneath Tower Bridge (the footage was filmed in sunny June).
Back at the stadium, the air is filled with the sound of whirling helicopter blades, as the very same chopper now magically appears above the stadium in real time, assuming it is not shot down by the surface to air missiles located on a nearby London tower block. A hatch opens. A rope drops.

AND DANIEL CRAIG ABSEILS INTO THE STADIUM!!

EA and Sweeney will rise to attention and salute Quasimodo :!:

I really hope this is a joke. It sounds so naff and embarrassing.
Nope, it is true from what ive read.

Incidently i think 'BJ' has this image of me and the 'Sweeney' standing to attention and saluting in front of our TV's, when 'DC' is seen in the opening ceremony
of the Olympics! :D

they have to pass a background check. If they lie on the application it is a felony (this wold make it illegal to sell them a gun in the future). Mental health issues are supposed to stop a gun sale. there are waiting periods too. The system can work but there are so many places where normally the state drops the ball.

I've seen gas masks at army-navy surplus stores not uncommon for average people to buy especially if they live in big cities that might be a terror target but I've never known anyone who bought them. Gas grenades I don't know what they'd have to do to buy them.

We'll probably find out this guy had mental health issues and school or social worker knew about it but either wouldn't (or couldn't some state laws stop it) report him so it go on his record.

HE could have stolen the guns but I'd bet he bought them a year ago thats the normal pattern for nut jobs like this. I don't know but there is or was a gun show loophole I've never bought a handgun at a show so I wouldn't know if this still happens. I have gotten old surplus military rifles from gun shows, bolt action stuff, Brit enfields, german mausers, stuff like this. The thing is I don't hunt I only shoot targets and on a proper range so I mostly restore the old guns to shoot them on a proper range. Get pissed off like hell when someone abuses the right to own weapons.

I'm going to go to see Batman at least once this weekend wasn't going to but I'm not going to let nuts like this have power over our behavior. He'll be grinning like a fool if he can get copycats and or intimate us from seeing it.

If this is true it is in bad taste. Not about who plays Bond its the act of selling a movie through the olympics. Not trying to draw a Nazi comparison because I don't believe any involved are in any way similar to Nazis. What I will point out was poor behavior it was when the german plaster insignias all over the Olympics, used it for propaganda purposes. Not saying Bond being knighted then air dropping in is the same cause its not, using a commercial character at a event like the Olympics is a bad idea. Cheesy, cheap.

Brits do this and its war next Olympics we get Katniss Everdeen opens the Hunger Games,,,,, I mean Olympics

'Dark Knight' midnight take brings in $30.6 mil
Pic off to stronger late-night start than 'Avengers'
By ANDREW STEWART
Under a cloud of the tragic shooting in Colorado, Warner Bros.' "The Dark Knight Rises" scored $30.6 million from approximately 3,700 midnight locations, positioning the film solidly for the three days.
Imax contributed $2.3 million of the pic's total late-night gross.

The Batman finale outgrossed its predecessor, which earned $18.4 million from midnights. The pic also got off to a stronger late-night start than "The Avengers," at $18.7 million.

With the pic's positive gross outlook comes the sobering news early this morning of 12 moviegoers shot and killed at a midnight screening of "TDKR" in Aurora, Colo. One man has been arrested.

Warners still won't be celebrating a record opening for "TDKR" based solely on midnight grosses.

If midnights told the whole story, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" -- the reigning late-night champ, with $43.5 million -- easily would still be the biggest three-day domestic opening, at $169 million, not "The Avengers."

As it happens, "TDKR" skews primarily toward adult auds, who typically avoid midnight crowds. That's comparable to "The Dark Knight," which grossed $158 million during its debut sesh. Meanwhile, the three-quel's weekend heights, pegged so far at around $175 million, will depend greatly on adult and some family playability.

"Dark Knight Rises" continued to play during some early morning showtimes; pic launched wide today at 4,404 locations.

OK,having Craig be part of the ceremony( cauldron lighting, etc.) would be insane. It has been done by non-Olympic peeps, but truly, Daniel Craig would stretch credulity. To the extreme.

"Broadcast and cable channels across the country, including NBC, CBS and ESPN, scrambled Friday to remove advertising for "The Dark Knight Rises" following a shooting at a late-night screening of the film in Colorado. Warner Bros. is one of the biggest advertisers in Hollywood, spending $738.9 million to promote its movies last year, according to Kantar Media. A spokeswoman for Warner Bros. did not respond to requests for comment." This film is now screwed and people are dead. Will Hollywood now make less violent films? When life imitates art what happens next? This one lunatic has now caused chaos among Hollywood producers for future films. They still call him the "alleged" killer :!: He was caught in the act :!: :!: :!: He is guilty before, during and after any trial :!: :!: :!:

The shooting in Colorado Thursday night does not seem to be keeping many people away from theaters this weekend. The Dark Knight Rises earned an estimate $75 million Friday night according to Exhibitor Relations including $30.6 million brought in from midnight screenings. Security was beefed up at many theaters around the country but shows were not canceled. Accurate box office numbers will be hard to come by this weekend though as Warner Bros., the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises, has decided not to release weekend numbers. Some other studios have said they might also hold off on reporting weekend numbers. Rentrak, the company that usually compiles studio box office estimates, has also said that it won’t report numbers this weekend. The true financial impact of the tragedy on The Dark Knight Rises likely won’t be felt for a few days. Most of the tickets for this weekend were presales which means that the sales count even if people didn’t show up at theaters.

The studio yanked from theaters the promotional trailer for its upcoming crime thriller "Gangster Squad." Set in the 1940s and 1950s, "Gangster Squad" chronicles the Los Angeles Police Department's fight to keep the mafia out of its city.

The trailer, which had been playing ahead of "The Dark Knight Rises" in some locations, features a scene in which men open fire with machine guns on an audience in a movie theater.

Some industry experts said the studio should scale back its promotions for the film.

"Warner Brothers should show sensitivity and pull the ads for a week, certainly in Denver, and maybe around the country," said former Columbia Pictures marketing head Peter Sealey.
