James Bond is no longer coming to India. Despite a green signal from the Indian railways ministry, plans to shoot a few action sequences for the British super spy film have been shelved.

'The production company, India Take One Productions, have communicated to the railway ministry that they are not shooting the next Bond film in India, and that they are looking at other places,' sources from the railway ministry confirmed to IANS.

'The production company has thanked the railway ministry for their co-operation in the past few months,' added the sources.
The producers of the movie, tentatively titled 'Bond 23?, wanted to shoot high-speed stunts on the Indian Railways. There was a request to shoot on the rooftop of a moving train, as well as inside a tunnel. However, they were having trouble getting permission due to safety and security issues.

Though the ministry gave the go-ahead to the film's January-March 2012 shooting schedule, officials were worried about the production team's demand of 'locking off the lines for seven-eight hours a day for seven days in a row'.

The crew of 'Bond 23?, starring Daniel Craig, had also short-listed Goa's Dudh Sagar waterfalls as one of the locations.
Now, the shooting is likely to move to South Africa, according to media reports.
Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi has reacted to the news of the Bond film no longer being shot in India. "While the Bond franchise is important for us, so is the safety of people. God forbid if something untoward happened, people would not stop blaming us," Trivedi says.
Pravesh Sahni from India Take One Productions (who was looking after the Indian leg of shooting the movie) doesn't want to blame the Indian Railways for the Bond shooting not happening in this country. "Let's not get into specifics about who is to be blamed for Bond not happening in India. I am not blaming the Railways at all. In fact, I have actually sent a letter to the ministry thanking the Railway Minister for personally taking an initiative in this issue," Pravesh says.

Doubtful the Indian Government was too restrictive, the green light was given for a February shoot, which was the problem. EON was too slow getting their s**t together on this one.
Almost without a doubt this falls on Craig's scheduled. Unless Sony pushes back The Girl Who Played With Fire (which they can't do and keep it commercially viable) Danny boy needs four to six months of 2012 filming the prestigious Stieg Larsson series.

Bond is usually a January to July filming proposition not counting re-shoots. Danno can not do that and be in the next dragon tattoo film.

Sorry mate you are going half arsed measure on Bond 23 any way you cut it

BTW EON might have cost themselves a few million by pissing off the Indian people (a Bond movie in India normally makes at least 8m). For the sake of argument lets say some how the Government is indeed responsible, I guarantee the spin by the India production team and government will blame EON/Sony/MGM/ Hollywood in general for snubbing the Indian people.

Maybe they could do a "Bond-lite" film, like the "Doctor-lite" episodes of Doctor Who (Blink, The Girl Who Waited etc) that allow whoever is playing The Doctor to spend longer filming the season finale?

The might could do this for The Girl Who movie, depending how they film it ( I believe the story was more concentrated on Lisbeth Salander anyway). I think they've already done this since Mara was passing up work scheduled for this fall and Craig is supposed to start filming Bond 23 November to January.

They'd like to be done with the next Girl Who movie by September next year, script to finished product.

Knowing the Indian government levels of corruption, especially from the Commonwealth Games last year, when something high profile like Bond walks into town lots of ministers will want their palms greasing, and I'm guessing not enough was done by EON to keep the corrupt Indian ministers happy.

But as Mazer said, it doesn't matter if the Indians are to blame, they'll spin it to make EON look bad....which could cost them in the long run.

Given how long it takes to get a movie greenlit in Hollywood, I suspect that he is only now reaping the benefits of his post-CR honeymoon period.

You'd think that they'd,you know, wait and see if GWTDT is a hit before they make all 3 movies.

It's not like South Africa and Turkey are bastions of honest government.

What it looks like from the outside is a scheduling problem, mostly because EON was too slow getting ready. July/August getting the stunt ball rolling and they had the green light by the middle of September, that's fast, however the logistics to get the filming ready was the real delay and perhaps the ludicrous nature of the stunt.

EON knew when they let /when Craig signed on to the Tattoo Trilogy that was his priority. Craig had to guarantee the Tattoo producers Bond would not be a problem because he was not their first choice because a trilogy like this will be shot on a busy scheduled for several years running.
EON knew Danny's scheduled would be a problem, now they are stuck trying to shoehorn Bond 23 to make way for another Craig project.

The Tattoo director has gone on the record about how wonderful EON is about sharing Craig and how there is not a lot room in the very tight scheduled, meaning between Bond 23 and Tattoo 2 there is no room for Bond over shoots and re-shoots.

The reason they were tying to get going by October was they want to be wrapping February/March (not getting started) so Craig can get to the next production on time.

Some personal friction and general unpreparedness sneaking in slowly pushing off the start. The demand Craig get in shape, possibly a contract breaker if he is unprepared (depended on how it is worded).

To make the scheduled they should already be shooting Bond 23, but the script was not even in the first draft this summer, and the casting is still to be announced. The logistics of foreign shooting and getting all of the elements in place is a tedious job, one that must be done right or else people will die. Besides they need to avoid another Panama at all costs.

What's all this about then?
James Bond is in love with Crawfordand it has nothing to do with Cindy! Mumbai’s Crawford Market (officially called Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai) will be one of the locations that will feature in the next Bond film. Because of the busy nature of the location, it is going to be recreated in the large sprawling area of ND Studios belonging to Nitin Desai on the outskirts of Mumbai.

A two-km long set will be constructed at ND Studios for the big Hollywood production. A huge action sequence of the film will be shot there using a multitude of junior artistes and stuntmen. 007 will be seen chasing villains as they decamp with some goods amidst the hullabaloo of the buzzing metropolis.

Crawford Market, named after Arthur Crawford, was the first building in India to be electrified. The market covers a sprawling 22,471 sqm area, which means the art directors of the film need to do a pretty good job to make it look authentic. Two very expensive cars will be blown up on the sets, apart from a breathtaking train sequence. While one is not sure how well the Indian authorities will bond with the spy, they sure will be spying on Bond to see what the filmmakers are up to during their shoot in India.

They can very easily do this on a set. Make Los Angeles look like India. Ask Alias people, they did this the whole time and I promise you it looked absolutely authentic. Of course the difference is that Alias people were majorly competent and SUPER fast and efficient at getting things done, so that may be where the problem lies for Eon  Whatever it is, they're not filming the action sequence in India like they were meant to, and clearly they are not spending the supposed two months in India filming. Now the question is, since that was supposed to be the opening scene of the movie, what the HECK are they doing now? Replacing it with some other random Far East or Middle East country?

And, this comes as no surprise. Yet another halt for EON: We kept saying they were WAY too late with things, and consequences now are here... I have NO idea how they will get this done in time. By the way they said they would start filming THIS month, not November. Still have to read anything updated about it? Yeah, because it's not happening. It'll still be November... which means ridiculously late. I have no idea how they're gonna solve the problem of the opening scene now, but like I said, I guess we'll get cheap set stuff instead of actual location. How much this movie is effed up even before it's started is beyond me.
To make the scheduled they should already be shooting Bond 23, but the script was not even in the first draft this summer, and the casting is still to be announced. Exactly. And yet here we are. I swear a bunch of monkeys are more efficient and organized than EON. Now the question is about the other part of the problem..
Some personal friction and general unpreparedness sneaking in slowly pushing off the start. The demand Craig get in shape, possibly a contract breaker if he is unprepared (depended on how it is worded).
I think this may leave room for the unexpected IF things go all wrong. New actor and stuff. I do believe it's EXTREMELY unlikely at this point but seen how effed up things are getting as time goes on, I also can't discard the option. Like we said many times, MGM needs the movie out at ALL costs, so this HAS TO be released by Oct next year in the UK like they announced... if that doesn't happen, MAJOR trouble will ensue, but it could be the way MGM and Sony force EON into doing things their way, depending on contract clauses.

I don't even know what to say at this point, so far not one thing about this movie is READY. And I mean not ONE. They have James Bond and M and that is IT. It's not nearly enough for casting. And let's not even get into the script, like Mazer said not even the first draft was ready this summer. Really?
"Are we on coms?"
