3. While acknowledging its difficulties, Forster still defends his Bond entry “Quantum of Solace.”
Compared to its predecessor, “Casino Royale,” Forster’s 2008 James Bond film didn’t get good notices from critics, although it remains the highest grossing movie in the series. The director admits that there were drawbacks with heading into such a big property. “‘Quantum of Solace’ was a bit of a different circumstance than a lot of my other films because you’re stepping into a franchise, and also in that particular film, we’re dealing with a script from the writer’s strike, which was difficult to handle because there was never time to really develop a finished script. Most of the time was about scouting locations more than what was on the page.” All that being said, he likes the film, while acknowledging that it may not have been what people were after from a Bond picture: “I’m very pleased with how the film turned out. I do think in the third act, some of it I wish we could have had more time to develop the script in a more profound and in-depth way… It’s just that it was a very intensified and rushed experience. People are always looking for what they love most in that particular franchise, and ultimately you can’t please everyone. I was very aware going into it that my objective in that particular film was to make it more like a ‘70s, very straightforward revenge movie, and that sort of pace was my point of view.”
Nice to see the talking point made it to Mark, for being their first choice in Bond 23 director the poor chap has fallen from grace a long ways.. However as rebuttal I would call in to evidence everything Eon, Daniel, and Mark said in 2008-2009.
I did find it interesting he said "It’s just that it was a very intensified and rushed experience." and the fact they spent more time on locations than on the page. Sounds familiar.
"Those were the days when we still associated Bond with suave, old school actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore,"
"Daniel didn't have a hint of suave about him," - Patsy Palmer

The script was only part of the problem of QOS...........my main gripe with the film, was the way Forster directed and had the film edited, which made the film very hard to watch and follow............i notice he hasnt commented on these issues.
QOS was a bag of hurt. On one hand I do not think anther film as bad as QOS is possible, on the other hand I don't know if they (producers and directors) understand what they did wrong.
If thing had gone the way they wanted he would be back setting up Bond 23 right now!
Favorite Bond Movie: The Dark Knight Trilogy, Mission: Impossible, Kingsman: The Secret Service and The November Man or any upcoming actioners starring Pierce Brosnan (no, it's not James Bond which is good since it will help him expand his reputation as an actor especially in the action realm)
Favorite Movies: Star Wars Indiana Jones Star Trek The Dark Knight Trilogy Harry Potter Middle-Earth The Matrix Mission: Impossible The Mummy Jurassic Park Godzilla

But if Bond 23 makes more than both CR and QOS at the box office (especially here in the US) and/or receives even a single Oscar nomination, then we should campaign for Carrot Top to be the next Bond and to hell with Henry and any others who have traditional looks suited for Bond.
Favorite Movies: Bullitt, The Long Good Friday, The Towering Inferno, Jaws, Rocky, Superman the Movie, McVicar, Goodfellas, Get Carter, Three Days of the Condor, Butch & Sundance, The Sting, All the Presidents Men
I don't know where he gets off saying QoS was like a 70's thriller. It was far from it.
Since when did 3 Days of the Condor, All the Presidents Men, The Parallax View, etc. have shaky cam action sequences, hacked up editing, and breakneck pace storylines...?
A 70's style thriller would be a perfect follow up to Casino Royale, they had the chance and ended up with a ruined reboot.
I'm little tired of the idea of Craig's Bond still finding his way it was a good ploy for precisely one movie, after the initial origins it should move on and not be stuck in trilogy mode.
“Your that secret agent! That English secret agent from England!"
Forster PROVED EON is incompetent and does not care about the final product whatsoever because they always knew the fans would come out no matter what rubbish they threw out as Bond........well, not any more If it sucks, we stay home, en masse.
