Daniel Craig: 'Rom-com would be disastrous'

‘James Bond’ star Daniel Craig makes an appearance at the 'Cowboys and Aliens' premiere in San Diego, California
Daniel Craig has said that starring in a romantic comedy would be a major low point in his career.

The Cowboys & Aliens star, better known for his portrayal of James Bond in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, suggested that the movie genre is full of cliches.

Craig told Bang Showbiz: "I'm not about to do a rom-com. It would be a disaster.

"Good movies aren't just funny. Good movies aren't just sad. Good movies aren't just serious. They're all of those f**king things.

"In good movies, you should be involved in the characters. Not getting deep about it but I think that's more interesting."

Craig also expressed his desire for a funnier script for Bond 23.

"The humor has to come from truth, at how ridiculous the situations are. If it's just gags for the sake of gags, I'm not interested in that. I want to get the wryness back into it," he said.

"It's a balance, because you've got to believe that he's going to be alive at the end of the movie. That's a James Bond movie."
Great Bond 23 is going to be sad and serious with Daniel cracking jokes about the worldwide economic depression

"Those were the days when we still associated Bond with suave, old school actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore,"
"Daniel didn't have a hint of suave about him," - Patsy Palmer

Someone said Timothy Geithner cusses like a 7th grade school boy I suppose he and Craig could have a cuss off. I am very tired of him cussing in every single interview he does. As a man Craig has come down so many pegs this year...... how can he not develop the common sense most of us have to live and work in this world?

I'll send him a memo too. It is beyond juvenile to talk like a potty mouthed middelschool delinquent. I understand why young teenagers do it and why soldiers do it, this is not acceptable from professionals adults. I am offended not because I am a prude but because they so no respect for others or themselves.

Dennis millers is a foul mouthed comedian I happen to like a lot but he can and does fix his language to where it is appropriate for his audience.

Had a discussion on another forum with a chap who claimed all this swearing is just how rough men speak. Now I can understand
Connery who had a lot of rough jobs and was a sailor swearing a bit, But Daniel Craig :o
From his Bio, He's from a middle class family. ( they owned a pub) has been acting since he was 6, did acting and drama at school and then went on to study acting.
His only taste of "Rough Work" would of been his brief stint as a waiter. Hardly working on the docks or down the Mines.
I think like many actors he thinks it makes him sound more "Street" and as he doesn't give a d**n, a Bit Hard.

I know a lot of guys who do what a chap described to me as "Rough work" sure they do swear loads, Buy in social gatherings etc, it's toned right down, the kind of enter "Polite mode", who knows mabey during interviews Craig is already in "Polite Mode", God knows how he swears when an interviewer is not there.

But he has a point a Romcom with him would be a f'ing disaster. He has his range laughing is not one of them. Come to think of it aside from looking dower while running through walls I am not sure what his range is. Not a dis, he would be uncomfortable doing the thing Dalton has done in the last few years.

It is not how men talk it is how undisciplined vulgar people talk. I suppose spitting on the sidewalk is acceptable behavior too. There is a certain way people should behave double so when giving interviews / public speaking.

So what if he swears? Get over it people, he's not going to stop. It's not as if he's slapping ladies around like Connery. This reminds me of an interview I posted titled "QUANTUM OF COCKSMANSHIP" where most of it is about the film but everyone here seemed more concerned over how it was "inappropriate" when Craig and the interviewer were joking around about Bond's titling the next flick QOC for a bit between the questions about the flick.

Anyway, back to topic.

Awhile back I remember listening to the Mark and Brian radio program which I usually did before college classes. QOS was on the horizon and they were talking about Daniel Craig's career and one of the things they thought he should do sometime was a romcom with Jennifer Aniston. Never have I rolled my eyes so much. It's not that Craig would not be good in a rom-com, it's the fact that rom-coms for the most part suck.

The only rom-coms I have enjoyed were indie fair like Chasing Amy and (500) Days of Summer (though that may be due to my infatuation of Zooey).

Nothing wrong with Zooey. She's done some great movies(Almost Famous is a favorite of mine, even if she isn't in it a *whole* lot.)

The way he curses, Craig comes off as more than a little coarse. Mind you,I curse(not nearly as much as Craig-I have to curb it, seeing as I have young nephews and a niece(though I know the nephews probably know those words) and I am not a prude.

It's just a sort of trend I notice around these parts. Craig curses and everyone whines about it more than actually discussing the real subject.

What a poor attitude to have. I personally do no care how he talks in private, in public it is a different matter it shouldn't be sloughed off as that is just how he is, he can't help a lot of things, how he looks, what he likes, how he behaves is one aspect of his life he should take control of. Connery's attitude / actions was wrong and never publicly accepted out side of 1957. These actors shouldn't be accepted or we shouldn't accept we have to have other people clean up their words so they can by published.

Last Rom-Com I thought was any good (that I've watched) was Kate & Leopold and that had the aging Meg Ryan [shudder]

I an not complaining about Geithner because he does not do it in public, he is just a bad secretary of treasury. I do not care what Craig does on his own, you'll notice they do not have Craig's spy dropping the f bomb.I mind all of the idiots who do it from rappers to actors. I think we've come a long was far as tv standards where there is moderation of cussing and more age appropriated as they evening goes on. I do not think Craig talks this way in front of his stepchild, I do not expect any less from anybody in public.

It's more because Craig is pg-13 movies star if that is the right word. Bond has nothing to do wiht it there is nothing more unintelligent than cussing every other word we as a society have a certain manner of behavior that is acceptable ,making excuses for bad behavior does not hold water with me. Craig has a bad history sine the begining so it's no surprise, and I am not really all that down on him for it beside it shows a poor mind that can not find another adjective to describe something in causal conversation.
