Bond lost 4m in the States after Craig took over.English Agent wrote:For your reference 'Kris'Kristatos wrote:Here's a UK all-time top 100 (by attendance) that features 8 Bond films, including that notorious flop Die Another Day. I was initially pleased that neither Craig film was in there, but then I noticed that the list dates back to 2003. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
UK estimated admissions for:-
Casino Royale 10,423,140
Quantum of Solace 9,883,562
(Figures obtained from a European film data source which tracks film admissions)
Yes since Bond was somewhat reborn in 1995 with Goldeneye, the UK admissions for the Bond films has gone up with each subsequent film until.......QOS.
QOS had a record start in the UK, based on the high expectancy level after CR....but after the first 2 weeks or so on release the attendance level dwindled somewhat, obviously due to poor word of mouth!
EA
The UK Numbers are probably closer to 8m for Quark, either way they lost ground all over the world, some are harder to see since unlike the States there is not and direct comparison each sequel. I don't believe the EU source doesn't get their numbers from the studio, I'm trying to remember what the average prices were in the UK 2008 & 2006.
I'd go with those number for now.

It has very poor numbers here and they were advertising it for a year. Good people behind it, on the day it looks like it will preform poorly.English Agent wrote:Hands up in the air.............to all our North American friends who will be seeing C&A this weekend?
YEP..........i knew no one had put there hands up.![]()
Seriously though, if the film is reasonably well received across the Pond, i may go and see the film when it arrives in the UK, mainly out of curiosity, to see how two completly different film genres blend together, and also to see how well (or not) Craig carries the lead role in a non-Bond film.
EA
I mentioned they would be over 100m for production, 163m could be correct, however they were intending to not go over 100m. Craig only got 6m, how much did they pay Ford?

Quoth Box Office Mojo's "Bar for Success" feature:
Sadly, BOM's forecast is only $36 million. On the one hand, the bar should be low for Cowboys & Aliens, because it's a Western. On the other, Cowboys is a big alien invasion movie with big name talent behind it, and it's positioned as an intended event movie with a massive, year-long marketing campaign, so the bar should be high. With so much riding on it, an opening close to $50 million would give it justification.

Mazer, i agree that the European film admissions site.........like all box office resources, seems to have some abnomalies.
I think the admission figure for CR is in the right ball park, but the figure for QOS does seem to be too high, when you consider that CR made some
$105 mil plus in the UK, and QOS somewhere just above $80 mil.
The reason, i mentioned estimated admissions is that unlike other European countries who note the admission figures, i believe for some reason this is not the case in the UK, and that admissions are calculated by back tracking from the gross box office revenue.
To proof this point the UK all-time film admissions list which 'Kris' mentioned in an earlier post, took ages for film historians to calculate.
Anyway, even Boxofficemojo is not always right, they cant at times seem to add up their figures for international tallies.
The tally they quote for QOS at $586 mil worldwide is 10 mil too high due to the fact that during QOS's release BOM got there sums wrong from week to week, and accidently gave the film an extra 10 mil.
To confirm this if you look at other BO figures for QOS on other film sites you will see that the worldwide tally is quoted in somewhere the $576 mil region.

"But Cowboys & Aliens has struggled in its extensive, year-long marketing campaign (including its Super Bowl spot). Sure, it has been more polished than Green Lantern's panicked ad spree, but most ads have made Cowboys & Aliens look like a half-baked Western and a half-baked alien-invasion movie shoe-horned together.
Cowboys & Aliens title, which is a riff on "cowboys and indians," is catchy, but it may have a Snakes on a Plane effect: title tells all in a goofily blunt way."

Some of this is do to inflation. MGM's numbers for QOS are 576m. CR numbers are up a tick from theatrical re-release.English Agent wrote:Mazer, i agree that the European film admissions site.........like all box office resources, seems to have some abnomalies.

Cowboys will fail, unless the overseas BO save the day. The way it looks now it will be lucky to break 40m this weekend, early reports are in with a estimated 15m today. :Probably on the high side I'd guess.
In one way they picked the wrong leading man, still they had Ford what he is worth. Maybe a different leading man might have saved the day but the vibe people got was they have seen this all before combined with a too serious for it's own good tone. More mention was made of the other projects the people were involved with (Iron Man, Star Wars, Bond) instead of the material on hand -always a bad sign.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Spielberg/Howard/Favreau=morons for banking on Danielle as the lead in this sci-fi western junkola! I hope Q is correct in only a $15 million opening day. IF correct, and he usually is, VICTORY for those who know that Cr-egg is not marketable and should leave town at once as Bond. Jackman would have Bond opening weekend at near $100 million in the USA most likely. FBF,
all seems aligning into place with Potter looking like a billion dollar marvel and Roy Rogers Meets The Jetsons bombing at the box office. The green vegetable's stalks will be pacing back and forth and the Bond 23 producers will be shocked as well with the lack of box office draw in ALL of Cr-egg's films now outside of Bond. Next week the apes will override the cowboy calamity which COULD drop to 4th next weekend! Facts.........only facts. Ale, wherever you are, get Henry ready.........and FAST!
It's been said before, but the proper wisdom would have been 2 more Brosnan films as Bond in 2004 and 2006, 3 by Jackman from 2008-2012, then 6 by Cavill moving forward. Instead, the green vegetable gave the world a nanny goat as Bond in two films in 9 years! Bond ended in 2002 as we knew it. It's time for him to return........properly! Just wait until Cr-egg's next egg comes out and bombs in September with his wife as co-star: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=dreamhouse.htm

It's on the link EA. Dream House, so they cannot possibly mean his home with Rachel,(which must be a nightmare), it's just the name of the film.

I doubt Dream house will do much either it too is a tired idea, CvA was a old idea 10 years ago I guess nobody cared enough to go maybe it will be bigger overseas like King Arthur. I really hoped it do better than it is so far.
Bond in India isn't a surprise at this point I do wonder at how they will get it together in time.

Speaking of non-Bond films from a Bond actor, how well will this do at the box office, and will it be #1 at the US box office?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
He's not marketable outside Bond. If the prediction is correct and this movie bombs, it makes it more likely that we'll be lumbered with him for a fourth, maybe fifth Bond film. I think this movie represented our best hope of offloading him onto another franchise, and the prospect of its failure does not make me happy.bjmdds wrote:Spielberg/Howard/Favreau=morons for banking on Danielle as the lead in this sci-fi western junkola! Latest reports from Hollywood is that C&A's is not doing that well, and could end up second this weekend to the Smurfs.
It could be bad for C&A, as the film had a repoted budget of between $162-200 mil.
