I sure wouldn't complain if Coldplay were to do a Bond theme song, thing is they never will because they cost too much... and Barbara Broccoli is an idiot. I cringed when I heard they wanted Winehouse, seen as I cannot stand the way that woman sings, and best of luck to her of course but I was glad she didn't do it. Then of course we got a dreadful song nevertheless, so I guess there's no escape.bjmdds wrote:That theme and voice was Bond gold! Now THAT'S Bond material! Eon rejected that for the Keyes joke that puts one to sleep? Notoriety is not a prerequisite to be in a Bond film. It's talent, pure and simple.
I frankly don't care much who does the song seen as Craig's aspect will anyhow ruin the good atmosphere for me, BUT if I could pick a big and "trendy" band, I would most definitely pick Maroon 5. Problem is Adam Levine (the lead singer) in a tux looks a lot more like Bond than Craig does.

Regarding the Bond title songs, i think i've asked this before but forgotton.
Who selects the music artists to perform the title song?
Is it the studio?.........EON?..........or Both.
In general the last few Bond films have had a mixed bag of theme songs!
IMO
Goldeneye - good
TND - so so, they should of used the song from the end of the film
TWINE - so so, or was it garbage
DAD - i actually liked Madonna's song
CR - unusual, but i got to like it
QOS - ************************************ i cant comment on this song, if i did i would have to go to jail.
Bond 23 - it can't be worse than that of QOS, can it?

So am I. I didn't say all Brits like QOS, I said that QOS was more popular in Britain than elsewhere. The ticket sales figures seem to bear that out.shaken not stirred wrote:Hey I'm a brit and I wouldn't defend crappuchino royale or quantum of porridge if it was the last thing I ever do,Kristatos wrote:katied wrote: If you find someone defending QOS on an Internet messageboard, chances are, it'll be a Brit. Thanks for posting that 'Shaken...', i thought it was really good, and so did the people who commented on 'You Tube'.shaken not stirred wrote:Found the rejected quantum of solace theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg2dXY9T ... re=related and surprisingly it's really good, what is it with eon and removing everything thing that made bond, bond? It suited the film much better, but most of all as others said it felt and sounded like a Bond tune.
It just proves to me, that even though QOS was never going to be a very good film, it could of at least been a lot better than it turned out.
Maybe the studio thought that having lets say a hip modern tune it would appeal to younger audiences..........nope, and it didn't do anything for anyone else.
I'am beginning to think that the studio and EON have lost the plot (and i don't mean the one for QOS
THE BIG QUESTION IS:- If the public knows what it likes in Bond films, and knows what feels wrong or right.....then how come the studio and producers don't get it????????????????????????????????????????

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
EA, no worries about using "Italian TV" as a standard to indicate bad. It is actually GODAWFUL. As in you have no idea how bad it is. I'm talking about general TV of course, which I don't watch at all. Italians like me who have had the wisdom MANY years ago to subscribe to satellite pay TV get very good TV. Because it's made only of US primetime shows (a few UK ones too), History Channel, Food channels and all that. Like Cable in the US, that is getting a lot better than network. Except network TV in the US still does have some very good primetime things. Italy never produced any in terms of TV in the past, uh... 30 years I'd say. And it's getting worse by the minute. If you asked me what was on "regular" TV here I wouldn't be able to tell you. I don't even skim through the channels, I start from the satellite channels and leave it at those. All the good sports programs are on there anyway and the national networks not to mention state-owned TV ONLY produce ABSOLUTE crap. You guys shouldn't complain about the state of YOUR television services... you truly haven't seen anything until you see the CRAP Italian TV produces. Really, thank god for satellite. to be fair I don't even watch much of that either.. I have a paid subscription to watch US tv online and I always just and only watch that when I'm in Italy. And I download the US primetimes shows I watch one hour after they aired in the US at the latest, so problem solved.
I DID think about it but did not write it because I was AFRAID to see that thought written down
Seriously, NOT THE BIEBSTER!!!!!
I actually think BJ may have a point... who knows what the EON monkeys are concocting right now. You never know with them. We get lousy movies (BTW Quantum of Porridge
Hilarious! Crappuchino Royale is also a good one. Gave me a good chuckle!
)
Oh and EA, don't worry about me taking a long time to type long posts... you'd be surprised how fast I am typing... people in my office were shocked even
And trust me, at bloomberg we were all pretty d**n quick typing because we constantly worked "under the gun" (must be why I'm a Bond fan
). Having played the piano since I was 5, typing for me is exactly the same thing... the keyboard is a piano but instead of notes it produces letters
Sooooo... anyone interested in hearing the latest about Babs going berserk on MGM? Apparently the knives are out. Stay tuned.

Well its still too early yet for any concrete news on Bond 23, as i imagine the studio and EON are counting all there pennies (or cents), to see how much they can spend on the new film......as its this i presume will determine how much to a degree the scale of the film will be, i.e film sets, action sequences and locations.
Though i hope they allocate at least more than $10 to the script.
Hopefully by the end of the year we will know, what the film will be called, where its going to be made, the actors in the film and the general idea of what the plot could be about.

That above song is one of the BEST Bond themes I have heard since the 1960s themes, very Shirley Bassey-esque for sure. It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt Eon IS the problem. They are losers with NO talent for quality in a Bond film. Bond 23 is irrelevant. Broccoli MUST go.

No surprise the there is infighting at EON. There are people there who want to bring Bond back to the center of the road so to speak. Doesn't necessarily have to do with Craig however Craig represent how Babs wants to run the franchise which is a problem.
I was talking to some people and with some qualification we pretty much agree that 2013 release date would do just as well for MGM, MGM needs the Bond series to be in production to look viable as a studio. However they have the Hobbit for the holiday 2012, if they make a decent distribution deal they'll have at least half a dozen smaller films coming out. As long as Bond looks like it will be moving forward this is the only optic MGM cares about. In other words if everyone's dream Bond -Cavill were cast today with the addendum that the movie wouldn't be out until 2013, nobody would bat an eye (not that this is likely to happen) as long as the franchise looks healthy and that means appears it had the ability to continue to be an earner (library content, etcetera).
My guess is whenever a partner/distributor is found the Bond budget will be hammered and it it will be much smaller. If EON is ready to play ball things will get done fast. However if they want to drag it out and throw a fit then there will be problems.
Take a look at movies going into production this summer. Look at movies going into production this fall. Then look at Bond 23. It not impossible at this point but the windows is closing fast.

That song is more than QOS or a Daniel Craig James Bond film deserved. That's the first time I've watched the QOS titles since I saw the film in 2008. What's with Daniel Craig's mug constantly appearing?

It still makes no sense whatsoever to me to take a four year break and then come back with Daniel Craig. The series always gets a boost from a reboot and a fresh actor after a long break.Mazer Rackham wrote:No surprise the there is infighting at EON. You're joking right?Hopefully by the end of the year we will know, what the film will be called, where its going to be made, the actors in the film and the general idea of what the plot could be about.
They must be filming AT THE LATEST by February next year. Filming means there is a finished and polished script obviously, all the location scouting done, all the casting done, all the crew hired, promotion and PR in full motion, budget done and dealt with. That means that all of the above you mentioned must be revealed at the very latest by the summer. They have GOT to have a finished script by the beginning of the summer to then have time to polish it. Finished script means we for sure will get information about the plot, title etc. The general idea. Then we will start getting details as soon a someone gets their hands on a finished script. But seriously, all of the above at the latest by the summer, or there is no way they're gonna meet the Nov. 2012 deadline.
I admire your faith in EON counting the pennies to see how they must spend on production. LOL, not going to happen. They just concoct the ridiculous idea, let the director get away with whatever absurd concept and once that's done, they just have to deal with making the rest of the movie with zero money because they spent the budget on absurd ideas the artsy director of the moment had.

Yes EON and the studio, will know whats going on???, its just the case of when the rest of us find out the details.
Remember, with the last film the title wasn't disclosed until filming had begun, and i believe as was the case with CR, the role of Vesper Lynd wasn't sorted out to the last moment.

Ahhhh ok
But as far as CR, no that wasn't the case. I read the entire script for the movie months and months before the movie was released.. when they were still filming. Regarding casting, it really depends on what you mean by "last moment". If you mean right before starting to film, then well that's a no and nobody can afford to do that if they're an even remotely dignified production, unless there has been a problem (e.g. role was cast but actor got hurt/sick/crazy LOL). If you mean "some roles may not be cast until after the summer this year" then yes, that's last minute and it can happen. The public announcement is one thing, things happening is another... and as you know a few of us have our way to get hands on info here
Speaking of... apparently the fight has been so nasty between Babs and MGM that there may be some very serious patch-up work to do. As in, some refuse to work with her. Good for them, I say.

Keep the posts going here. It's obvious MGM reads what we write and respects us for if they cannot stand the Queen "B", you know they are in our camp. They waited 4 years between Moore's 2nd and 3rd film;however, this time, with NEW input, there MIGHT be a change in actor required. I hope so. MGM, we will send FBF and Steven Seagal to fight off the Queen "B" if you need help!
