A great loss to Bond. i always hoped that he would return one day to do at least one more Bond score. Guess there's no chance of that now.

Very sad news. Bond films have been the same since Barry left. Imagine LTK or GoldenEye with a Barry score.

I wondered why he didn't come back, he continued to work in movies for a long time after TLD.

The story I've always read is that his bad experience of working with a-ha for TLD put him off LTK. He was ready to come back for GE, but he wanted complete control of the music, including the theme song, and EON said no (that and the fact that Eric Serra was cheaper). After that, he felt that David Arnold was his natural successor, and that the torch should be passed to him. That's the official version anyway, those with inside knowledge may know different.

I can't believe Mr. Barry is gone. I hope this doesn't happen to John Williams.

I meant soon. If Indy 5 is in the making and John William is gone, that wouldn't be good.

I held out the same hope. It's too bad, and I'm really sorry, it's a big loss for the movie world in general.

GoldenEye would have greatly benefited from a John Barry score. Arnold does a serviceable job. Not in the same class as Barry IMHO.

Though forgettable, GE soundtrack does have a Cold War feel IMO.

Loved all his distinctive soundtracks.

My favourites include Starcrash and Game of Death.
