The Bourne Legacy Leaves Matt Damon Unhappy

Post by Blowfeld »

Found this at Movie Webs. Matt seems a little too up tight about this..Also Greengrass only directed two of the Bourne Redundancies

The Bourne Legacy Leaves Matt Damon Unhappy

The Bourne Legacy leaves Matt Damon unhappy

It was announced in early October that Tony Gilroy, writer of the first three Bourne movies, was set to write and direct a fourth chapter in the franchise titled The Bourne Legacy. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Matt Damon wouldn't be returning in this latest sequel to reprise his Jason Bourne character. Instead, a new character would be introduced, which would allow for Damon and director of the first three installments Paul Greengrass to return for a future sequel.

Universal has made it clear that they want Jason Bourne to carry on long into the future with or without Matt Damon, thus creating a solid franchise that can continue on throughout the decades with any actor playing the character ala James Bond. Matt Damon recently caught up with MTV, and he revealed that he is not at all happy about Universal's plans for future Bourne installments:

I have no idea what (Tony Gilroy) has planned. But he's a very smart guy, so I'm sure it's going to be good. I do know that whatever he's doing won't preclude Paul Greengrass and I from coming back and doing ours. What they ultimately want is a franchise that can kind of go on and on. We explained to them that our character isn't like James Bond. You can't send him on a mission. There's character development, there's an arc that the character has traveled through the three movies. You don't just start over at the beginning of every movie. I think what they're looking for is a way to build that in so that they can continue without Paul and me eventually. I love the character. I love the stories. But only if Paul Greengrass says he will direct again. So far, though, he's decided not to. I'd definitely say yes if he went for it. I know he would have a great story, and it would protect the legacy of what we created.

Well frankly I think Matt Damon is right. And, he makes it clear "THIS IS NOT JAMES BOND". THANK YOU for saying it, now maybe stupid Barbara Broccoli and the others can hear that too and realize that BOND IS NOT BOURNE either. :007:

Who is he to say Universal can't send him "Bourne" on a mission? He is right about what separates Bond and Bourne but maybe for the wrong reasons.

Well, Bourne is a rogue agent being hunted down by his own agency. That would make an "M scene" a little bit awkward, no?

Exactly. Makes no sense whatsoever for him to be sent on a mission. Just can't happen. I do think Damon is absolutely right in his statements. I also think stupid Broccoli should read and learn. Because it freaking applies BOTH ways but apparently she isn't understanding it. Also, the Bourne franchise already showed signs of "tiredness" during the last movie they did. And I think Damon is saying what he's saying because he knows this is going to stray away from the original concept way too much... and it's going to become pretty ridiculous pretty quick.

I think Matt is too uptight about the whole Bourne Franchise he made 3 movies and they were not anything spectacular. His and Greengrass collaboration is average. Give me Sean Connery and Terence Young any day

The Bourne movies are played out..and overplayed on cable. Seems like one of the Turner networks(usually TNT) is showing them at least a couple times a month.

Bourne movies are tiresome and dull now and trying to develop them into a saga franchise like Bond will not work.

I couldn't tell you what the Bourne movies were about Damon obviously thinks their is a plot to them someplace in there. If he thinks so much of them why doesn't he get off his ass and get involved. He says they can't send Bourne on a mission why not? The own the right to try. Damon walked off in a funk because his buddy didn't want to direct. It be like Depp complaining if they made a POTC movie without him. May not be a good idea still it is their decision to make.
