Do Anti-Craiger's now accept he has been a successful Bond?
A genuine question I have been wondering for a while now.
Ever since the positive reviews started flooding in, the BO takings started rocketing, forum members on Mi6, AJB and CBN rejoicing, and CR/DC being nominated for awards, do the anti fans here now accept the boycott failed, and it appears as though the world at large has not just accepted Craig as the new Bond, but celebrated the fact that he is a great Bond?
This is not a thread to start flame wars, get people riled, or provoke silly answers. I would like careful, considered, intelligent, thoughtful replies please if possible.
It doesn't mean you have to like Craig to say yes to this, obviously, and this by no means suddenly reflects a warming to the idea of Craig as Bond either. I would just like a response on this question, and whether you now (grudgingly) accept Craig has been a success in his first film, even if you still hate him as Bond.

Easy question - easy answer.
No. I do not accept Craig as Bond at all (not even talking about his qualities). What I don't like is his attitude, his appearance, his accent. Some of his lines may be pretty cool, but still, that does not make up for the things he's missing. He might be a good actor, but he will never be able to sell things like charm or style or most of the things that make a difference between just a action movie or a Bond movie.
For me that's it. Bond era's over, good to have most good movies on DVD.
Thanks for asking, thanks for reading this.

You misunderstood my question. I didn't ask whether you accept Craig as Bond. I asked whether you could accept, and admit, Craig has been a success in his first outing.M wrote:Easy question - easy answer.

It still doesn't mean you like him even if you admit this.

No, I just wanted to know what anti-Craiger's thoughts were on this subject. It's called opening up a debate.M wrote:So why do you ask? To attack people? Is that what you call a debate?
And it was actually a chance for some of you to lose the stigma that this site is full of morons, unintelligent people, living with head-buried-in-the-sand, etc. (these are the type of words describing CnB, branded about by certain media magazines, and on other Bond forums for these past few months.)
I was trying to give everone here an opportunity to prove that anti-Craigers could accept with good grace and intelligence that they can admit Craig has been a hit, even if they don't agree personally with the casting.
I guess your comments have just gone some way to proving that the bad opinions on CnB have been spot-on all along.

I think it's hard for anyone to deny that Casino Royale has been successful without giving valid reasons. You just have to look at the facts.
Most attended Bond film since LALD (89.2 CR/91.6 LALD)
Brosnan's most successful film GE had an attendance of 81.2.
Daniel Craig is the first actor to be nominated for a BAFTA for playing Bond.
Casino Royale has strong critical acclaim.
Daniel Craig has strong critical acclaim.
2 Bond actors have praised him: http://www.hollywood.com/news/Brosnan_H ... nd/3650115 : Brosnan: "Daniel Craig is the greatest Bond ever and deservedly so. He was a great choice. But I'm still proud to be part of that legacy."
http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/ar ... nd_1022054 : Timothy Dalton: "Daniel was a wonderful Bond in a great James Bond movie. I'm delighted for him."

Along with what you cited above that, it is hard not to call it an insult.I guess your comments have just gone some way to proving that the bad opinions on CnB have been spot-on all along.
However.
You ask a question. I tried to say what I think. You didn't like it and try to make me look or sound stupid. But no matter what anyone would write beside "yes of course, we were stupid morons not to believe it" you would pick on.
Ok, the movie earned a lot of money. So what? Wait for the next one. Two Bond actors said Craig was great? What did you expect them to say?
Talking about accents- I liked Connery or Moore better- they didn't sound like working class men from Liverpool.

You would have sounded more intelligent if you had admitted Craig had been a success in CR, even if you didn't like him as Bond. Or to say, `Ok, well yes, he was a success in CR but let's see if that was just the novelty factor, and the real test will be Bond 22.'M wrote:Along with what you cited above that, it is hard not to call it an insult.I guess your comments have just gone some way to proving that the bad opinions on CnB have been spot-on all along.

The reason why?
Because we are now looking at hard facts, not opinions anymore on Craig. No matter which way you look at it, or try and spin it, it appears (in this outing at least), Craig has been a success as Bond, judging by the critical and commercial outcome.
And these are facts, not opinions.
Your post clearly choose to ignore the facts, and therefore you came across as someone who has had his head buried deep in the sand since November last year. You also responded in your initial post by claiming that you didn't like Craig as Bond. This didn't even address the question I was asking.
It was nothing to do with what you thought of Craig as Bond, yet your opinion of Craig was the one thing you immediately jumped on in your response to this thread.

I wouldn't expect Brosnan to say Craig was the "greatest Bond ever" unless he meant it. He's been very vocal about the direction of Bond, if he hadn't liked Craig he would have said something like "Daniel was a good Bond, I've always supported him", but the "greatest Bond ever"? That's a strong opinion, and not one given lightly. What did you expect them to say?

Well they didn't have to extend their praise as much as they did. Brosnan saying Craig is the best Bond EVER??' He didn't have to say that, did he.M wrote: Two Bond actors said Craig was great? What did you expect them to say?
So you thought Craig sounded like a working-class Scouser in the film? Really? I'm very suprised you thought that, as I thought he came across very well-spoken.M wrote: Talking about accents- I liked Connery or Moore better- they didn't sound like working class men from Liverpool.

Re: Do Anti-Craiger's now accept he has been a successful Bo
CR has done really well at the box office and it has proved to be a successful start for DC (Not as well as Sir Roger on his debut as Bond). The Sweeney wrote:A genuine question I have been wondering for a while now.

The BAFTA nominations are always a sign of a good film.
The problem for me is that it is not a 'good' Bond film. The marketing for CR was aggressive and utilised shots of DC coming out of the water very well. This boosted the attendance figures with many more women going to see the film.
