I get the general impression that pro-Craigers hate most of the James Bond films whereas anti-Craigers like the traditional James Bond and can be found on Bank Holidays watching the old films with a bowl of nuts and a cat curled up on their lap. Do you think this is unfair or has some element of truth?

I agree, in fact I'd be quite happy to see this site change its name to something like "The Bond 1.0 Appreciation Site" (a play on this "Bond 2.1" malarkey), to show that we're about more than just Craig-hate.

I actually feel were pretty much all passionate about 'our' Bond. The assumption that people who dislike Craig and CR are just Brosnan fanboys has hopefully been quashed.

Well I can safely say that with me that's simply not the case. I've got a huge love of the Bond series, and enjoy all of the films. Though with so many to choose from, there are some I like more than others.
But most of the official series are top entertainment, only a handful as far as I'm concerned fall into the sub-par catergory, and even those all have moments to like. But in the bottom of the bunch (imo) are :
TMWTGG, MR and DAD.
I would love for you to ever find any evidence on this site or any other to suggest that I hate most of the James Bond films. That's an unjust comment to make, just because I enjoy all of the films in the series and appreciated CR. It's kind of immature Jim. Everynow and then I find that this site has some great members and some good posts, then it goes back to being ridiculous.

I personally enjoy watching all of the Bond films from 1963-2002. My least two favorites WERE Dalton's interpretation, until 2006 came around and Craig took over. I cannot relate to his film in 'Bondian' terms, so for me, I can watch 18 of the 21 without hesitation, 2 I could take or leave, and the most recent intolerable to repeatedly watch. But that's just me.

I hate this sort of generalization of how pro-Craigs hate the previous 20 films. :? What kind of belief is that? I'm not even going to waste my time showing my love for Bond for the millionth time. If there are those around here who indeed believe in such crap, f**k off.

I think the proposition was put forward as a subject for discussion rather than a statement of fact. Of course there are James Bond fans who enjoyed Casino Royale and still like the old series. However, there does seem to be an element who don't seem to like many Bond films who now pray daily to a statue of Daniel Craig and talk about Casino Royale as if it was Wild Strawberries or The Seventh Seal rather than a Martin Campbell action film. You can find most of them at Cbn. I accept that you are not part of this subculture in the world of James Bond nerdom and are a knowledgable fan of the old series and Bond 2.1 redux or whatever it's called. The f**k-off part is a tad over the top though.

It does seems to have some element of truth to it.
However it could just be Daniel's supporters over overcompensation for Daniel's initial negative reception and a continuing snide snipe at those who still oppose him as 007.

When some of Daniel’s friends here take the extra effort to denigrate Pierce in every possible post, even in passing, it does leave general impression that pro-Craigers hate most of the James Bond films.

You've misconstrued my post. I wasn't saying all Craig worshippers hate the films but an element seem to go to great lengths to denigrate the series and Pierce Brosnan especially in order to bump up Craig and CR to ridiculous proportions. As Carl said, I'm talking about other places not specific members on this forum.

I can only speak for myself, but I've been a bond fan all my life - loooooong before Craig ever came onto the scene.

I've collected all the Pan 1960 novels, the original reprinted Fleming 1950 hardbacks, own most of the DVD's (I have duplicate copies of LTK, OHMSS, FRWL and GF in UE's), got tons of Bond magazines, managed to blag a ticket to Cubby's memorial at Odeon Leicester Square (one of my greatest days out, snapping photos of Dalton, Moore and Brozza together, and managed to meet celebs there such as Christopher Lee, Lois Maxwell, got my photo snapped with Caroline Monroe)....basically I'm a nerdy Bond fan.

I'm also suckered in to buying all things Bond too, buying the shaver from DAD, the Sunspel t-shirt from CR, and currently looking at ordering the new Mondeo when it is released next month.

Craig is just the new Bond for me. I was never a huge Craig fan before he was Bond, and I'm only a huge Craig fan now because he is the new Bond (and a great new Bond I may add).

To say I only like CR and hate the other Bond films is ridiculous, pathetic and insulting!!!

Brosnan made four films. If some of the members here disliked his Bond, that hardly makes them a hater of the most of the series.
Of his contribution I only dislike the second half of TND and alot of DAD, GE is overrated, but still a decent Bond film, TWINE seems to be a mixed bag. A potential great Bond film, let down from time to time.

As for how we all (the pro-Craig members) miscontrued your original post Jim, well if it wasn't aimed at the pro-Craig members here, it might have been a good idea to say so.
At the time.

I hate this sort of generalization of how pro-Craigs hate the previous 20 films
From reading the forums, I get the impression that many of those who loved Craig's performance dislike 70% of the Bond movies.

I found it annoying how certain people have said that the old Bond series was dead, and that Craig has reinvented a dead franchise. I liked the old Bond, and would like it back.

You'll find people saying the old franchise was dead because EON produced 4 films with Brosnan that were on a rapid decline, and ultimately reached an all time low with DAD. If invisible cars, OTT laughable CGI effects, thoroughly shameful one-liners and totally implausible storylines are what you refer to as `old Bond' then you are welcome to it!

Are you referring to quality of films or popularity?

In terms of generall popularity Brosnan's Bond films were the most consistent out of any Bond actor (discount GL and DC for obvious reasons).

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Someone who claims to love the James Bond movie series says the last four movies were awful and that I am welcome to it! Unlike The Sweeney, I liked the Eon James Bond movie series, and that overrated boring nonesense that was Casino Royale was not a James Bond movie.

I don't know if you read the original Fleming novels, but the stories were rather implausible. There was one laughable effect in DAD. I suppose you don't like Derek Meddings now. As a fan of the James Bond movies, I quite like the speciial effects. Watch Casino Royale and you will see lots of awful one-liners (written by Die Another Day writers Purvis and Wade, not Ian Fleming because he was dead) which were made even more awful by Daniel Craig's terrible delivery.

Each to their own I guess. It sounds like you prefer your Bond films with plenty of invisible cars, lots of double-taking pigeons, and heaps of Carry-On one liners.

You stick to your DAD/MR/AVTAK/DAF movies, and I'll stick to my OHMSS/FRWL/CR/LTK type movies.

You obviously didn't find DAD embarrassing, and you obviously found CR embarrassing. This speaks volumes about the kind of films we like.....

I like 3 of those four movies, and would have liked CR if it hadn't been so unsubtle in its desire to be different to every other Bond film, casting a Bond who looks nothing like any of the previous actors to play the role and starting the series again from scratch. Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but I resent the assumption that anyone who is critical of CR wants a return to doubletaking pigeons and comedy slide whistles.
