What is your prediction for the Craig era?

Post by James »

My prediction:

Craig makes two more films quite rapidly. They aren't as well recieved as CR. The box-office holds up worldwide but the US shows a downturn with each film. Craig announces he intends to seek new challenges as an actor and move on. Barbara Broccoli, who has no intention of making a James Bond film with anyone else for as long as she can help it, persuades him to make a fourth film. Craig is about 45 now and looks about 60. The series goes into a hiatus and eventually returns with an actor that none of us have heard of yet. He is 'the best Bond since Connery' according to everyone and is praised for bringing back the sophistication and charm that the previous Bond seemed to lack.

He said he wants to make the next one, then "get on with the rest of his life". Since he's signed on for three films, I'm guessing that means we'll see a long gap between Bonds 22 and 23. Given his general lack of enthusiasm for the role, I seriously doubt he'll do a fourth. As for the next Bond, I suspect Barbara will want someone in the Sean Bean/Daniel Craig mould, rather than a "classic" Bond.

What is his contract? Three films with an option for one more or just three?

Daniel Craig will make two more movies and then return to playing lunatics and oddballs in more independent productions. His stock will go down a bit post-Bond and he will become co-owner of a small seaside cafe to suppliment his income. Brooke Shields will offer him the part of the funny English boss in her new sitcom but Craig will turn the part down because he will consider it beneath him. He will return to the stage when he lands the prestigious job of bingo caller at Minehead Butlins. In addition to collecting rare types of cheese and metal-detecting with his dog, Blooper, he will live a quiet and peaceful life in his spacious bungalow surrounded by his Worzel Gummidge memorabilia.

Craig will make 2 more movies, by which time will be deemed as `irreplacable' (just look at his impact after just one film). Even moreso than under the Connery era.

He will then try and leave, but with too much pressure from the media, fans and EON alike, he is persuaded to do one more Bond. By which stage, he is now a huge international superstar.

Hmmmmm....now why does this seem somewhat more believable than the other predictions on here. Guys, time to stop living in Cloud Denial, and come back down to Mother Earth!

Because you're so starry-eyed about Craig that you can't even conceive of the possibility that the current media and fan love affair with him might not last forever.

Sure I can conceive that....but it hasn't happened yet.

It also appears as though you are having trouble coming to terms with the massive success of CR and Craig's popularity that is right now so clearly evident. To think otherwise is living in complete denial.

Like Sweeny says, Craig seems to have the upperhand for now. When we get signs of decline then you can all fantasize about Craig's career going downhill with everyone calling him the worst Bond actor and say it's closer to the truth. :P

I wonder what odds you'd get on that outcome?

Top stuff Sir Dom.

The difficulty for us all, is that nobody likes to back down. Sure we can act like buddies and agree on trivial Bond stuff, but when CR and Craig are mentioned we all feel aggrieved, but for different reasons. I'm like Kris, in that is narks me when I hear all the CR/Craig praise. I accept it was a success in terms of admissions and box office takings, and that educated Bond fans rate the film and Craig highly. I'm sure you all get angry and frustrated when anyone criticizes your beloved CR and Craig. The depths to which you defend everything related to Craig is sometimes farcical to me, yet to you, it probably seems logical.

Imagine for a moment you did not like Craig and CR and felt that the Franchise has been tainted. You would defend your position on this with as much vigour as you currently do defending Craig.

This is a nice, fairly well-reasoned, balanced post coming from you, young Skywalker. I'm impressed.

And I understand what you are saying. It must be frustrating. If an actor had been chosen to play Bond whom I didn't agree with, hated the film he was in, and then watched as the film pulled in great reviews and high BO takings. I guess I'd be as annoyed as some of the folk on here.

To be honest, that is pretty much how I felt with DAD (although I never really hated Brozza as Bond - I just didn't like his films). When the film came out, and was doing well at the BO, I was totally dismayed by it all. My only saving grace was that DAD was not getting the unaminous amount of global critical praise that CR is getting. If DAD had gotten that too, I would have walked out with a missile launcher and headed straight off to look for Babs and Michael.

Me too.

I guess it really depends on how successful 22 and 23 are. If they become bigger hits than CR, and he really does hit the dizzy heights of the Connery years, then he may be forced by EON, media and fan-base pressure to do one more (EON making him an offer he can't refuse).
