British man builds flame-throwing moped to take on tailgaters

A BRITISH James Bond fan fed up with being tailgated has invented the ultimate revenge gadget - a moped that fires 5m flames.

Colin Furze, 30, spent a month converting his sports scooter, which can travel up to 100km/ph, to blast anything that comes too close, The Daily Telegraph in London reports.

The plumber said the flame-thrower works by pressing a button on the handlebar and it took three attempts to get it right.

"It's a lot of fun and when I fire the flames out the back it makes me feel just like James Bond," Mr Furze told the Telegraph.

"The flames are pretty big and up to 15 feet (4.57m) long, so you could definitely set fire to someone's car if you wanted to.

"But it can get rather hot if you blast the flames when the wind is in the wrong direction."

He initially fixed his weapon to a BMX bike.

"It was quite tricky to make and the first version wouldn't fire the flames when the moped was moving," he said.

"My second attempt kept setting fire to itself, but my third version works really well and I'm very pleased with it."

But Mr Furze, who built the moped in his Stamford, Lincolnshire, backyard, won't be allowed to use it on the road.

"I've been told that if I fire the flames on the road it's equivalent to using a firearm and I could be in a lot of trouble," he said.

I mean with his attitude he shouldn't be driving. If he ever takes that bike on the road he and uses it offensively he should do time. I get weidr projects but the way he talks about it concerned me.

A plumber who built a 15ft flame thrower on the back of his scooter has been arrested for firearms offences - after police saw pictures of him allegedly riding it on a road.

James Bond fan Colin Furze, 30, unveiled his anti-tailgating device this week saying it was built just for the fun of it. But police arrested him on Thursday after seeing press pictures of him allegedly riding the souped-up scooter on a highway.

He was released on bail without charge while police investigate.

Devastated Colin, from Stamford, Lincs, didn't want to comment. The daredevil, whose stunts include a 16ft wall of death, had said this week: "I'm not going to set fire to cars, it's just something interesting to do."
