New "Bond Girls Barbie" Makes it Okay for Grown Men to Play With Dolls

* January 27, 2010

* By: Jason Newman

Barbie has been a childhood favorite for over 50 years, but next month, she will finally come in bikini form, as Mattel plans on releasing three James Bond Girls Barbie Dolls based on the classic film series.

Appropriately, Honey Ryder, the femme fatale played by Ursula Andress in the original 1962 Bond movie 'Dr. No,' is the first up to be released, clad in the white bikini that made Andress the target of every guys' crush. Subsequent Bond girls include Halle Berry's Jinx from 'Die Another Day' and, arguably the least subtle-name ever for a Bond girl, Pussy Galore, as played by Honor Blackman in 'Goldfinger' (in other words: these ladies may not be suitable for kids).

According to the doll's sellers, "What better way to celebrate the long-running film franchise than with this series of dolls depicting the legendary "Bond Girls"!" Yes, because, when you think of James Bond, the first thing most people probably associate with him is dolls.

Whether or not Matel plans to release any of the male villains remains to be seen, but we'd love to see Odd Job, Kananga or Jaws, just to give older brothers something they can use to beat up their sister's Ken doll.

I'm sure that the Bond girl Barbies(less the Halle Berry one..I predict a lot of those will wind up on EBay :lol:) will be big sellers. They always have a ton of special edition Barbies at Target which sell out quickly.(and when we had a FAO Swartz here in San Diego they had a HUGE selection).

What! Katied missed a chance at a Babs joke. Nature abhors a vacuum so .... Vegetable Barbie and her ken doll Craig :P

Danjaq and United Artists licensed these thing so Babs is getting a chunk of change for every basement dweller that buys 10 of these to keep boxed in mint condition.

This isn't the first time they have made Bond Girl dolls is it? There are Bond dolls so I assumed there were Bond Girls and villains too.

Is this big news because they are "Barbies"

I think the Bond dolls(which aren't that great-I've seen a few that were :shock:) in the past weren't made by Mattel but someone can correct me if I'm wrong. :up:

I don't know either. I find it more than a little disturbing if grown men are running out to buy them!
