BFI to celebrate Bond producer

London’s BFI Southbank is to host a season of films to mark the centenary of film producer Albert R ‘Cubby’ Broccoli who, with Canadian producer Harry Saltzman, brought James Bond to the big screen. Outside the world of Bond, Broccoli formed Warwick Films with Irving Allen where he started his producing career.
The BFI has teamed up with Bond producers EON, now headed by Broccoli’s daughter Barbara and stepson Michael G. Wilson, for the season which will run throughout April and May.
Highlights of the season include a presentation of of the 007 classic From Russia With Love and The Red Beret, Broccoli’s first producing credit which features Alan Ladd as a Canadian who joins the British paratroopers in 1940.
There are also screenings of the Warwick Films production Fire Down Below which stars Rita Hayworth, Robert Mitchum and Jack Lemmon. Other Bond titles being screened include Dr No, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and The Living Daylights.
