CR now No. 1 on DVD in US

More bad news for the anti gang....

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Casino Royale" blasted its way to the top of the national DVD charts Wednesday, proving the new look of James Bond is as much a hit in video stores as it was on the big screen.

The 007 thriller, which grossed $167 million in North American theaters, bumped reigning champ "Borat" to No. 3 spot on Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert sales chart and No. 2 on Home Media Magazine's video rental chart during the week ended March 18.

Also new was "The Holiday," which bowed at No. 2 on the sales chart and No. 3 on the rental chart.

"Casino," which stars Daniel Craig as the new 007, outsold "Holiday" by more than 3-to-1; in rental stores, "Casino" generated an estimated $9.2 million in revenue, compared with $8 million for "Holiday.

"Casino" also made a big splash on Blu-ray its first week in stores, outselling its nearest competitor, "Departed," by 9-to-1. "Casino" is now the No. 2 Blu-ray seller since the format's inception in June.

CR Behind DAD, Even in 2002 Dollars

Post by PeterFranks »

http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/rentals?date=2003-07-06

Casino Royale (2006) 33 Days $3.57M This Week $31.8M Total
Die Another Day (2002) 33 Days $5.6M This Week $55.9M Total

Adjusted for inflation, DAD would be at $61M total in today's USD, almost double CR. Just like the inflation-adjusted US box office, CR does not impress in the US.

As for its impressive international BO, it would not be so much of what it was without the weak USD.

BTW, nice to join all of you.

Yes, it is quite annoying when things like facts and the truth stand in the way of opinions.

It's not an opinon, and inflated adjusted figures are not fact or truth. Plus your figures only seem to account for the US. There is as I've said before more countries outside of the US.

And the rest of the world gets lumped together as one market.

It should be based on a worldwide figure.

Why are you focusing on one country when there are plenty more out there where CR has done well....or does that spoil the point you are attempting to make?

Actually, I hadn't finished my analysis of the entire world BO for CR vs DAD.

In the end, adjusting for currency fluctuations and inflation, CD actually grossed $471,993,888 (in 2002 USD) vs $431,971,116 for DAD. This is respectable and can be attributed mainly to the record BO that CR did in the UK, which I would attribute to Daniel Putin's popularity there.

I am curious about whether Sony, BB and MW figured upon this in their plans to cast Craig.

Peter Franks I think you are already losing your credibility when you keep referring to Daniel Craig as "Daniel Putin". Why do you bring up namecalling instead of referring him by his proper name? It's childish and you're giving this forum a bad name again like Deanna. :?

I guess it depends on which side of the fence you sit.

Whoever said that? I think it's just improper. Even the Brosnan bashers are guilty of that.
