Carlyle: '24's Bauer would kick Bond's ass'

Post by CaptainLewis »

24: Redemption star Robert Carlyle believes that Jack Bauer is a tougher action hero than James Bond.

Speaking to the Daily Record about who would win in a fight, the Full Monty star said: "Jack Bauer probably - he kills more people. Kiefer [Sutherland] could definitely kick Daniel Craig's ass."

Carlyle, who plays Bauer's friend Carl Benton in the feature-length prequel to 24's seventh season, added that shooting the television movie was an enjoyable experience.

"It was fun filming with Kiefer," he said. "He's quite a guy, especially on a night out. We did a lot of scenes together and one was particularly emotional."

I disagree. Can Bauer beat up someone like this?

I think 24 is overrated. Its too dramatic for me. I heard that the show is very politically biased.

I don't get the appeal of 24,though I do like Carlyle(he was great as Begbie in Trainspotting )

Ah, but Brozza has a secret weapon. He could sing to him, causing him to throw himself off the nearest tall building.

Brosnan would throw them both off a roof and adjust his tie.

Alternatively drop him onto the worlds largest satellite dish. Or simply shoot him in the head.

Why would he do anything to Pierce?Pierce isn't the one who looks like thug and a guy with warrants somewhere.

When SMERSH study a photo of Bond in FRWL, the immediate thoughts are `nasty looking customer.'
When Viv Michel first sets eyes on Bond in TSWLM, she immediately thinks he is another villain.

So, you are right. Brosnan doesn't evoke that kind of reaction, as there was nothing remotely nasty about him. Maybe he would take his camera out and ask Brozza if he would like to appear in a gay male photo-shoot instead.

SHH! Fleming's Bond is supposed have male model looks and act like a millionaire playboy prince. You should know better!

Actually, the phrase Fleming used was "movie star looks".

Exactly. Not `male model looks.' There is a difference.

I'd hardly call Hoagy Carmichael or David Niven male model types, yet they were both what Fleming had in mind when he wrote Bond. Christ, I even heard that Fleming fancied the idea of Peter Sellers....

Never heard that one. If ever the phrase "be careful what you wish for" applied....

Didn't he say that Richard Burton would make the best Bond, though? Burton was conventionally handsome, and if you're not boycotting Ingrid Pitt's entire back catalogue in protest at her blasphemy, his performance in Where Eagles Dare gives a pretty good idea of how he would have played Bond.

Fleming was talking about movie star looks in the 1950's - perhaps the definition of movie star looks may vary a bit from today.

David Niven was handsome when he was younger - I always picture David Niven as being in his 50's with a mustache and a cardigan. Stewart Grainger would have been a great Bond, here he is pictured with Niven -

I'd have quite like'd the idea of Burton as Bond. Much better than Lazenby, that's for sure....

I'm sure we've agreed on other things too in the past, excluding Craig....
