Like I said, all a matter of personal opinion....Milton Krest wrote:I thought all of Brosnans films were pretty entertaining personally! I think QOS is the worst Bond at present date. DAD is obsurd but entertaining.QOS did not have the saving grace of humour or style and that damm shacky cam made it unwatchable! The Sweeney wrote:Well, saying QoS is a bad film is purely a personal opinion. Likewise, my opinion of Brozza's films were pretty awful, and they managed to survive 4 films in a row, topping it off with the worst film in the entire franchise with DAD, which did wonders at the BO.Terry wrote:QOS was supposed to be the knockout blow for the Craigers with $200+ million in the US, BAFTA nominations, Bond mania etc. It has hasn't done poorly enough to threaten an immediate change of Bond actor but it has put paid to any nonsense about Daniel Craig making six or seven films. If Bond 23 is as bad as QOS, and with the current team at Eon that must be as likely as not, it will collapse even sooner at the box-office.
Bond is a very strong franchise, and can sustain a lengthy period of bad releases. The Brozza years are living proof of this, so if Bond 23 is similar in quality to QoS, I doubt it will hurt it too much at the BO.

Well, of course not but the drubbing it got from critics(and fans)could have been enough reason for EON to pack it in.Fortunately, they didn't.DAD wasn't a failure (at the box office, anyway).

In the early 90's, during the troubles with the studio, didn't Cubby contemplate selling his company 'Danjaq'?carl stromberg wrote:Has there ever been a time when Eon thought: "we are finished!"?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Just because it didn't reach those expectations doesn't mean it was a total disaster. Disappointing after CR, yes, but not an utter disaster like TMWTGG or LTK to warrant doom and glooming, the end of Craig era, and all that junk. It made over $500 worldwide, that pretty much solidifies Craig's position as a popular Bond actor. After two films that drew in a lot of audiences, Craig may as well be standing next to the three other popular Bond actors, Connery, Moore and Brosnan. This is something (very unfortunately) Dalton couldn't do. QOS may not go on to be the big Bond favorite like CR was, but even then Craig still got most praises from the reviews that trashed QOS, which says something.Terry wrote:QOS was supposed to be the knockout blow for the Craigers with $200+ million in the US, BAFTA nominations, Bond mania etc.
So now Craig stands next to Connery, Moore, and Brosnan as a new popular Bond. You folks may not like it one bit and will find anything to debunk it as much as possible. But money talks, in this case, over $500 million. A whole billion when you combine both his films. Oh yes, EON will want to keep a track record like that.

Let's see now: "CR did $594 million worldwide with a $150 million budget..... Let's go crazy and spend $200 million on Craig and gross $650 million next time.... Uh oh, I don't think we were correct this time...... We will be hard pressed to turn a profit on this one." Some of the board room comments perhaps at Eon and Sony? Someone on MI6 says he sat through The Bourne Mimicry 23 times.

1) That the budget may not be quite as hefty next time round. From GE onwards, we know the Bond franchise is worth approximately half a billion dollars worldwide. This hasn't really changed, although it reached its peak with CR, so why plough more money into it.
2) That Craig is as popular, if not more popular, than Brozza was, judging by sales admissions alone worldwide.

That he will be replaced very swiftly by Jackman due to the massive failure of QoS at the BO....stockslivevan wrote:So BJ what do you think of Daniel Craig most likely returning for Bond 23?

With other older Bond movies that could be true. Possibly after Quark too, they don't seem to have plan for the next one. But they made a lot more money with DAD just becasue of the lower production and promotion costs.

bulls**t! Go back to the archives and read the 2002 reviews, you'll not find what you are talking about there. Sure some were disappointed but there were a helluva lot of "Wow!" "Best ever!"katied wrote:Dud Another Day: A box office success but hardly one with fans..I'm sure a vast majority-as in most-wanted their money back, that was 2 hours of my life that I wasted, etc.
The talking point you have there is from after Craig was appointed, not before.
Contrary to company approved myth DAD didn't almost kill the frachise and it was not the worse Bond movie ever. Pierce and his Bonds were savaged becasue some of his nuttier fans were upset and very vocal about it. The best defense is a good offense and since even Bond fans were upset with how he was treated they had to claim some extenuating circumstance. Which had nothing to do with the reality of why the decisions that were made happened.
We'll see the exact same thing if Babs loses her fascination with Cirag and goes for Steve Buscemi w/Danny DeVito as M. Craig fans will decry it and then we'll all find out how Buscemi really embodies all that Fleming wrote about and how Craig wasn't capable of whatever -the new direction or was getting too old or made too many demands.
Telling how some Eon defenders repeated the talking point about Pierce wanting too much money to play Bond again and could do nothing but cheer for Craig renegotiation his contract for, gasp!, more money
