Is Quantum Of Solace the worst ever James Bond film?
Re: Is Quantum Of Solace the worst ever James Bond film?
with the absence of the gadgets, maybe we could expect "Bond" doing a MacGyver on the next movie.
James Bond: NOT just another action hero.

I'll skip Bond 23 & wait for:

Bond is on an indefinite leave, He'll Be Back.

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes I'd like to see some of those elements back, but in the right way. The Aston Martin would be the easiest modification. You could do that in a Batman Begins sort of way. Having the Aston Marton rigged with weapon systems could be done in a non-corney way. What I don't want to see is the over the top rediculous stuff, like the Lotus Esprit Submarine, or the invisible Aston Marton.

I think they can bring those things back...and do it justice..but they have to be very careful

At least NSNA still had Q and Moneypenny, Bondian humor, and most importantly of all it had the James Bond personality and character that we all knew and loved. Daniel Craig's bland-"Bond" in no way resembles the personality that Bond had with Connery, Moore, Brosnan, Lazenby or even Dalton.

No time to comment now but I have seen Quark. I now feel safe voting that it is indeed the worst Bond film in the history of the Eon frachise.
I'll post a small review during week if I get the time.
One small aside it wasn't Craig that ruined the movie (Connery could not have resuscitate this DOA turkey) but he didn't save it either. At times his rendition of Bond made bad scenes worse. Right now I'm mostly in agreement with Graham Rye's critique.

Again you anti-Craigites just brush sweeping generalties. I'll give you that Connery is the one true Bond, so NSNA is actually a decent Bond film. Although even Connery said the video game stuff was rediculous. But just take Connery and Moore. Their interpretations of Bond were completely 180%. Dalton went back to being more Conney'esque, but still was very different. Brosnan's Bond never fully took shape, mainly due to the poor scriptwriting through most of his movies.Eye Of The Tiger wrote:But even then, "Never Say Never" was WAY MORE of a true Bond film than the two Daniel Craig "Bond" films.Mr. Big wrote:That's what I believe. Again, I guess the few Craig supporters on this site will never get through to you guys, nor do I wan't to. If you hate the guy that much, so be it. But as I said before on here, most of us are loving this new Bond with the return of Felix Leiter, who wasn't in any of the Brosnan movies.

I do hate him as Bond. You said: "I guess the few Craig supporters on this site will never get throught to you guys". I do apologise for having an opinion. I thought Daniel Craig fans stopped getting annoyed when someone criticises his Bond.FelixLeiterRocks wrote: Again you anti-Craigites just brush sweeping generalties. Also, who is "us"? If the Box Office and the reviews of Quantum of Solace are anything to go by, then most people are not "loving this new Bond".
I think that the Bond in the Cubby films - and Never Say Never Again - is different from the Craig Bond. I thought that is why Casino Royale was popular. People liked the change. But they are a bit bored with that new Bond now.
Welcome to the forum, by the way.

Casino Royale could have been saved by a few tweaks and a young Bond actor. But as you say, QOS was bit of a mess.

Re: Is Quantum Of Solace the worst ever James Bond film?
I didn't realize QOS did bad at the box office.
Look, I'm not saying we should never go back to the old format, I'm just saying it's been 40 years of gadgets, bad guys with crazy unthinkable plots, and two somewhat realistic new Bonds. Punk rock cleared out the excess of 70's rock, Craig is clearing out the excess of past Bond's.
Craig's Bond isn't formulaic. It's gonna be 3 or 4 films telling the story of Quantum, and then out. You can bring in Clive Owen or whatever dark haired, 6 foot tall british/irish/scottish/welsh/kiwi/aussie actor who can wear a tux and throw out a pun.
My only hope is they manage to pop out those films before studio execs force them back to the formula.
As for box office... Quantum seems to be doing just fine. I've heard it was not as good as CR, but CR had the benefit of being a fresh formula after ice car chases and the like. It set the bar high, and Quantum isn't as tight as it.

...........
Sorry Felix, Felix Leiter of the new series is a gimp compared to the one in Dr No and the Fleming's Books (Fleming's Leiter he had a hook for a hand since LALD). His appearance in Quark was dismal and a neutered adaptation of Fleming's.

Re: Is Quantum Of Solace the worst ever James Bond film?
Have to disagree there. I think Jeffrey Wright's Leiter is one of the few bright spots in the Craig films, and I hope he continues after Craig leaves. Though if they re-establish the timeline, they'd have to either put him in a wheelchair or give him bionic legs.Mazer Rackham wrote:Sorry Felix, Felix Leiter of the new series is a gimp compared to the one in Dr No and the Fleming's Books (Fleming's Leiter he had a hook for a hand since LALD). I never knew this, until I read it somewhere, but according to the novelization of Licence to Kill, Leiter's been married before. [/nerdy]
Wright's Leiter is fine.

I just watched Die Another Day for the first time.
All you Craig haters need to just take that in before you hate on QOS.

I like Die Another Day, as I think it's quite good fun. At least has some semblence of Bond in it. But Eon should be able to find a middle way between the invisible car and a glum face Bond killing everyone he meets.wrenchhands wrote:I just watched Die Another Day for the first time.

DAD is a movie that Cubby would have been proud of. There area parts of it I'd change but the main one is not Brozza.wrenchhands wrote:I just watched Die Another Day for the first time.

That is tired overplayed company talking point. It came up only after Craig was cast and the SDF (Sony Defense Force) needed an angle.
If you think that movie (DAD) was so bad that things had to change your talking out of your ass mate.

There's no excusing the invisible car
I do wonder what EON are going to do now that the contract with Sony is up.Though I suppose they could reup with Sony(stranger things have happened). It might be good for them to get away from Sony though, in case they feel like they have to have some control over the Bond films.
