New Bond- Just Another Steve McQueen

Post by autumnleaf »

I grew up with all the bond movies.
The new bond has taken something away from the movies.
What were they thinking when they got
David Craig. Just another Steve McQueen who I was not fond of.
I'm very disappointed in who they picked for the new bond.
Does anyone else feel this way?

Well McQueen was a legend, one of my favourite actors, so I don't mind at all.

John Wayne was a legend too. Doesn't mean I'd want him as Bond.

Lawrence Olivier was a legend too, but I wouldn't want him as Bond either. The John Wayne refernce was not a good one, Kris. I usually expect better from you. :P

McQueen embodied 60's cool. The American version of Connery's 60's cool. He was the Cooler King. In that respect, having someone who reminds people of McQueen is not a bad comparison to draw. Craig reminds me of a combination of McQueen and Connery. Brosnan reminded me of Moore, which IMO was a bad thing.

Yes, McQueen was a class act.Daniel Craig, with his potty mouth and wooden acting,is not.

Now now Katied. You know I can accept most people's opinion on Craig here, but yours unfortunately not. You are the Darth Vader of Bond forums. You were once a good person, when you were Anakin Skywalker. I can sense the good still in you....

LOL at least I don't subscribe to the Hitler Youth stuff like a certain pro-Craig(NOT yourself!) does. Yes, I went there. But if the description fits...

Laurence Olivier, John Wayne...the point remains the same, that being a legend doesn't necessarily make a person Bond. I could have picked any number of movie icons, The Duke was just the first one that popped into my head. If we're now retroactively narrowing it down to epitomes of 60's cool, then Bob Dylan or Tony Blackburn (yes, he was considered cool at one time!) wouldn't have made a good Bond either.

Time will tell if Daniel Craig is considered an "iconic" Bond. I think QOS may hurt his chances of that :?
