The reviews will do the necessary work to make the point that in 2008, as in the USA election slogan, it is time for a CHANGE ,in Bond.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Boxofficemojo poll has 57% of the 552 people saying TBM is the main film they want to see in November. Looks like the slim competition will create a big opening weekend BUT will it have the staying power? Will Eon get away with a poor film being successful at a time nothing else is out there to see?

No Sweeney, you don't get it! EON bought them out! Only the negative reviews are truthful! The world hates Craig! His non-films will keep flopping and people will see The Bourne Mimicry for what it really is and demand a new actor for the role which EON will have no choice but to do while Sony fires Babara "I Heart Craig" Broccoli. The Sweeney wrote:But the majority of reviews out there are positive, bj.....bjmdds wrote:The reviews will do the necessary work to make the point that in 2008, as in the USA election slogan, it is time for a CHANGE ,in Bond.

Re: MR, TMWGG was lonely for Bond as well. The only possible fling happens after the story ends. The Sweeney wrote:I guess for me the most thrilling aspects of the books were the nastiness that crept in (usually towards the end of the novel). The violence, the fear in Bond, the dread, the `how will he get out of this' kind of feeling, the thought that something very unpleasant is about to happen to Bond. The action usually fared up as quite realistic in the novels too. It had an all-too-believable aspect to it. To me, this is what the Bond novels were all about. It sounds like we have this in spades in QOS.Mazer Rackham wrote:"the slapstick, light-hearted romps" "too serious, too dark, too violent"I see what you mean. However this was not what the books were about. They were more about the sex and the food. A few times Bond wonders if he is getting too soft. Only once does he go berserk. The action came more in spurts. A few inwardly brooding moments but mostly a cheerful over all demeanor.
Of course, the other ingredients that you mentioned are significant too, the food, drink, sex, snobbery, locations, etc. Well, we know for a fact we have locations in QOS (moreso than any other Bond film in fact). The food and drink - most probably. Sex - well, sounds like it may be to a minimum in this flick (there again, in the novel Moonraker, Bond doesn't get to shag anyone, and the bird he does try to pull walks off with another fella at the end). The snobbery? Well, I doubt there will be too much of that in QOS, but I could be wrong. Empire did say this about the film - `He shows a certain expense account flair in turning down a modest La Paz pensione to check into the poshest hotel in the city by insisting that the ‘teacher on sabbatical’ he is pretending to be has won the lottery'.
I guess it's hard to say any more on this subject until we've all seen the film for ourselves. Not long now...
YOLT Kissy had to use her, imagination, to entice Bond/Whois.
Locations can be well used or under used. From the telltale signs Quark jumps around a lot, desert theme, I'm not going to say they didn't use locations well, although they did not in CR. I'm sure you'll say what you think of it after you see it.
‘teacher on sabbatical’ he is pretending to be has won the lottery'.
A little lame. Sounds like throwaway line that will probably be delivered dryly and miss the mark.
Funny he and Green looked like teachers on holiday in the CR promo photos.
RE: Bond attitude. Fleming liked to maneuver Bond into a corner, the principle target always had the upper hand, the plucky hero had to labor to over come the unfavorable odds. On a whole Bond had on average a cheerful demeanor and lust for life (women, food, drink, smokes).
TMWTGG Bond was nearing the final showdown and was Happy . YOLT Bond was depressed, hospital CR depressed, most hospital stays he was depressed, who can blame him.
Fleming's Bond was never a coldblooded killer, never. CR (2006) got this wrong. Killing a British agent and brushing it off would never happen. The indecent would never happen to Fleming's Bond. Being so callous as to dismisses it is not a part of Bond, young, old, beginner, experienced operator, whatever.
Bond was a aspiring book writer, took the time to thoughtfully examine his mental state, trained on missions to be better physically able to complete them, a connoisseur and had a surprisingly soft spot for his fellow beings, taking the time to reassure distressed damsels and worrying about the welfare of the people he meets and interacts with.
Rambo Bond (Rambond) is off the reservation.
That is if the reviews are correctly reporting it.

Is Fleming's Bond all about "action"? If so, then John Matrix and Frank Martin are examples of Fleming's Bond.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
You know, it depends on the reviewer, always does, after all somebody found Max Payne delightful. The Sweeney wrote:
I have to admit that these reviews are starting to confuse the hell out of me. Another reviewer says there aren't enough explosions, which contradicts this one. Another review says QOS is too violent, then another one says there is hardly any violence, so the kids should be ok watching this. Others say there is no humour in QOS, yet already from the cllips I've seen, the script is showing the usual signs of banter, light-hearted exchanges, etc. between Bond/Felix, Bond/Fields. Some are saying it's dour, boring, when others are saying it's gripping, pulsating, catch-your-breath, one of the best action films ever made.
I've never seen such mixed, contradicting reviews before for a movie. Where they all watching the same film??![]()

For the violence there is no good yardstick for comparison, some see any shooting/killing as too violent, some find offense only if there is excessive blood/splatter, some draw the line at sadistic torture.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I think it's fair to say (judging by the reviews) that QOS is a confused and possibly messy Bond film.
To be honest, not what I wanted in a follow up to Casino Royale. But I may love it after I've seen it. Or I may think it's rubbish. As always I let myself decide after my initial viewing, but the reviews I've read have got me concerned.
At least Craig is not the one who appears to be a fault here, rather the writers and in particualar it would seem Forster in the directors chair. Maybe action is not his thing. Now I realise that many of the members of this site will be calling for the dumping of Craig, but will the film be a financial failure, or even a failure in the mind of joe public?
If the film is a miss fire for EON, and everyone has there bad days, with the planned break between QOS and Bond 23, hopefully they get a chance to come up with something really special.
