Chitty Bang Bang film to be remade
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the classic musical film based on an original Ian Fleming novel, is set to be remade.
Michael G Wilson, who co-owns the rights to the story, has told The Sunday Telegraph that a new version is in the pipeline.
"There may be a new film of Chitty, we will have to see," he said.
The 1968 film, which starred Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts, Robert Helpmann as the Child Catcher and Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious, is one of the best-loved children's films. Cubby Broccoli co-produced the film and Roald Dahl co-wrote the screenplay, which was based on Fleming's 1964 book.
Its songs include Toots Sweet, Hushabye Mountain and Truly Scrumptious.
Barbara Broccoli launched a 2002 stage version, which starred Michael Ball and has been a great success both in London and on Broadway. It is currently on tour.
She said: "I wasn't surprised by the success of the show because so many people came up to me and said they had the original video.
"In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Fleming created some perennial characters. The car and the whole idea of flight is something that appeals to kids of all ages.
"The show was wonderful. The number of grown men who were reduced to tears at the sight of that flying car was amazing to me."

I think it's best to leave the movie the way it is instead of having it remade.

I have not seen the original in ages. I doubt there is a compelling reason to remake it.

Re: Chitty Bang Bang film to be remade
Daniel Craig will play Caractacus Potts, a drug addicted Gulf War veteran who uses the money he gets from his job working at a local confectionery factory to buy and renovate an old car. In an effort to make the film more realistic, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is now a second-hand Ford Fiesta with no magical abilities whatsoever. Barbara Broccoli claims that this version will be much closer to the spirit of Ian Fleming than the 1968 film starring Dick van Dyke.Capt. This may be signal that the Broc's wont be making a Bond movie in the immediate future. May be the start of another 3 to 4year hiatus. Errm, Sorry writers retreat.

I love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! I hope they do not remake it! They could only ruin it IMHO

I've never seen the original, so I'm apathetic of this.

CCBB is one of those films that to be honest I'm not a big fan of. Though I haven't seen it in years. I don't recall it being anything special.
Does it warrant a remake? Really?

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is always on at Christmas, so - like the Bond series - I associate it with that time of the year.
Bring back Bond!

Why are you talking present-tense about Roger Moore? You're aware he retired 20 years ago after learning the last Bond girl's parents were younger than him right?katied wrote:Daniel needs to have female co-stars who are closer to his age, like Dame Judi Dench..oh wait, never mind
