So, what roles WOULD Craig be good in?

I made a joke on another thread about how Sir Ian McKellen should play Bond, since acting ability is now seemingly more important than looking the part. Now, lest it be said that I am incapable of saying anything good about Mr. Craig, it got me thinking that he would actually make a heck of a Richard III in the McKellen mould. McKellen played him as someone who was capable of displaying a blokeish charm when it suited him, but was an utterly ruthless barsteward underneath. I don't know if Craig has played the role before, I know he was with the RSC, but am not familiar with all the details of his theatrical career.

Can anyone else think of a suitable role for Craig to hopefully lure him away from Bond once his 3-film contract is up? Try to be nice!

He'd probably have done a better job than the rather bland Jools Holland lookalike that they did cast in the role.

Oh sure. I'm a Bond fan, but that doesn't mean I want to play Bond (wouldn't mind writing a Bond film, though). I just suspect that his new-found Bond fandom is the result of a big paycheque, rather than a lifelong love of the character.

Probably. But is this one reason to not like Craig as Bond? By all mean's feel free to sound off if he doesn't look the part, or have the right hair colour, but this???

Is it essential that an actor's credentials in the future to play Bond must be that he is an avid, geeky fan, must have read all the Fleming books backwards, must own all the DVD's, have watched even the crappy films like AVTAK and DAD endlessly, and worship the ground Bond walks on??

Is that what you are saying? So was Moore a huge Bond fan? Or was he doing it for money? Was Connery a huge Bond fan before he played Bond?

The only actors to play Bond who have gone on record and been outspoken fans are Dalton and Brosnan. Dalton loved the novels, and Brosnan was a fan of the films.

But this is surely not a reason at all to state whether an actor is right for the part. It just sounds like you are being very petty, if this is one of your reasosns for disliking Craig.

As a bad guy DC would be brilliant in most any role.
Good guy is a suit that doesn't truly fit.
-not that Dc doesnt have a chance to be JB but its gotta move past the start up. Bond aint like the Batman –he doesn't have –or need a origin story. CR was the 1st JB story but he was JB being JB. That's what I wanna see.

I think you're reading way too much into a bleeding sig file (which more reflects my amusement at the difference between what an actor says in an unguarded moment and what he is briefed to say in a press conference than anything else - and yes, I know Craig is far from being the only person who does this), but an actor's enthusiasm for a role is reflected in his performance. Connery was visibly bored with Bond in his last two films, and it showed. Likewise, Dalton's and Brosnan's love of Bond was evident from the way they threw themselves into the part. Craig, to me, gives off an attitude of "I'll do what it takes to get the job done, and no more". But maybe it's my imagination - it's hard to tell, since Craigians wouldn't be able to see it even if it was there (love is blind).

I think it is all plain for everyone to see that Craig gave 100% dedication to the role. What other actor went to such extremes to be in such great shape physically for the role previously?

You may not like the guy for the role, but to think that he coasted along in the role, Connery YOLT-style, or Moore-style without throwing himself into the role completely, is just wrong. The evidence is all too obvious to see. Do you really believe that he just coasted along, waiting for the paycheck, and gave no thought whatsoever to the role he was playing...?

It is the one reason he has won critics over, if nothing else. He actually became Bond, as opposed to the other actors, who just went through the motions of playing a 2 dimensional super hero. Craig suddenly made Bond real.

And your love is blind remark is total bulls**t. When Craig was announced as Bond, I was as skeptical as many others. I hated all the Brosnan films and went in to CR half expecting it to be more of the same crap. Thankfully, EON proved me wrong. I am now in love with the franchise again, after 18 long years. And Craig has won me over with his performance too.

I think you need to stop thinking every Craig fan was a Craig fan before he became Bond. I certainly wasn't, that's for sure. What you will find is the Craig fans are actually Bond fans, that have been won over by the new guy playing Bond. One look at some of the threads on AJB will tell you that. There were more anti-Craigers on there than there are on here, yet many of them have admitted they were wrong, swallowed their pride and said Craig has won them over.

There is no Craig-worshipping going on here. If there were so many Craig fans before he was picked to play Bond, then where have they been hiding all these years? Surely Layer Cake would have been a massive worldwide hit had that been the case.

Your biased hatred and prejudice against Craig is glaringly obvious for all to see.....

Well he must've done something pretty bad for Eon to let him go like that. In his prime and all.
