My opinion
For me (Not sure if I'm speaking for everyone here) 'Daniel Craig is not Bond' is not the right title for this site.
It should be renamed 'Daniel Craig is not Bond in CR'. Potentially DC could be the best Bond of all time. He has the acting ability and physical presence (I think we all can agree with that) and if only the movie and direction were right, he could be excellent.
I am looking forward to the next Bond movie as much as anyone. I just hope (whoever directs the next one) allows DC to be the character that was so evidently missing in CR.
I'm not someone who loves PB and I am not against the change of direction for the Bond movies. I personally do not think a change was needed, but at the same time I welcome it.
I hope this post shows that to dislike DC in Casino Royale does not necessarily mean you love PB or OTT movies.

There's no denying he is a great actor who is able to convey a full range of emotions that no other Bond actor has been able to do. My problem is that I found DC's performance of 007 to be the most un-like Bond I had come to know.ID wrote:Care to elaborate skywalker? What was it about Craig in CR that made him un-Bondlike in your eyes? My own view is that Craig's acting performance in the film and his suitability to be James Bond are seperate. I don't think you can 'act' James Bond.
There are elements in his performance that are 'Bond like'. The physical presence and the cold hearted killings are commendable and appreciated, but the true essence of Bond is the well educated, refined, cool under pressure, calculated proffessional that has nurtured his skills from years served in the forces as an officer. DC's performance had little of these elements and as such I feel he has given the worse Bond performance by any of the major actors who have played him.

Craig does have potential. As a Bond villain he would be one of the best. Sadly I do not see him becoming Bond in the next film, if anything he may go further in the opposite direction.Skywalker wrote:Potentially DC could be the best Bond of all time. The change of direction with young actor who is Bond the first out could have been a stroke of genius. The only really big hubbub I have with the direction change is scrapping the past like it was. There is so much room in the Bond universe to work with.

I appreciate your point about scrapping the past and understand why people would be annoyed by this.
OH Dear.
I find it amusing that one of the most memorable scenes in CR is Mr Craig coming out of the ocean looking like a stuffed albino sausage.
I can't imagine Connery or any of the others having to go to this depth to get attention. Think about some of the most memorable scenes from past Bonds .
Is it Craigs fault or the producers?
Who cares.
It (CR) had the overall feel of a cross between the A Team and an advert for a famous chocolate.(FR)
People talk about him being believable. What?! Jumping 30 feet to a crane the 30 feet to the ground. Killing all the poor stupid black soldiers(ah white supremecy) without a scratch to himself. This is fantasy time....and why not. But please don't call it realistic or close to Flemings idea. He made Jean Claude van Damme look sensitive.
I still say Connery was the Dugs Bollocks and Craig will go down as nothing.
Maybe it isn't his fault. Lets be honest Bond is an old fashioned spy for the old fashioned cold war which no longer exists. I knew the game was up for Bond when he was taking on newspaper owners .
Give me the old baddies any day. Things and times have moved on and so Bond must do the same but if he does he loses his pedigree and in return will gain nothing.
It's all too similar to Bourne.

Right now with the massive financial and critical global success CR and Craig has been, what makes you think he will go down as `nothing'?steve234 wrote:I still say Connery was the Dugs Bollocks and Craig will go down as nothing.

Even for Bourne we have to suspend belief to allow for his mental and physical conditioning, which in reality is unlikely.
For me Bond’s charm was his uniqueness. I guess for an American it was his Britishness, not brutishness that encaptivated.
I seem to recall soldiers being shot, like the poor sod Craig used as a shield.steve234 wrote:Killing all the poor stupid black soldiers(ah white supremecy) without a scratch to himself.
Whiffs of white supremacy can been interpreted, along with the old British imperialist attitude.
Did I think they were intentional? Probably not.
Casino Royale was closely modeled after the Bourne movies, which to me is a shame because the Bond movies were special.

You seem to think Daniel Craig is responsible for the personally. You know he's an actor right? And James Bond is a fictional character.Blowfeld wrote:

Can you give any evidence to back up this statement. Which came first Bourne or Bond?Whiffs of white supremacy can been interpreted, along with the old British imperialist attitude.

I think your a little hard on PB. He's not that bad. Actually, I don't mind old Brozza. In fact, I was quite excited when he was picked as Bond. And I thought he was great in Thomas Crown, Panama, hell even in The Long Good Friday.
I hate his films more than I do Brozza. If they had put Brozza in CR, I would have still loved the film.
If they put Craig in DAD, I would have still hated DAD.
Do you get the picture....?

BOND sells, NOT CRAIG
The reboot is a risky area, did Eon need to do it? NO. Did this confuse alot of people? YES.
The Bond character will always be anchored in the values of the 60s
