Weak casino scenes in Casino Royale?

Post by carl stromberg »

Did you enjoy the casino scenes in Casino Royale? The words minimalist and surreal seem to crop up to positivley describe the scenes.

Personally, I though they were a bit flat.

The scenes in Licence To Kill and GoldenEye were more lavish. They did look a bit cheap.

You think the Casino in Casino Royale didn't look lavish?
Brosnan looked out of place in the casino scene in GoldenEye, one of the worst scenes in the film in my opinion. He didn't look like a confident man who is a regular gambler to me.

I think the casino scenes in CR were very low-key. I presume they did that on purpose. It just seemed like a small group of people in a back-room with few onlookers. The casino in LTK seems huge by comparison. I'm not sure that the GE scene was lavish. To me that always seemed a bit tacked on. Almost like a case of ok, this is the first Bond in six years. Let's stick Brosnan in a casino because this is a James Bond film.

About GE...

CR had a few homages that were all subtle at best compared to the attempted ones on DAD. If you notice, when Craig is entering the casino, it's the same exact shot they did when Brosnan walked in.
