The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Other thing Amazon has to worry about is activist actors . Like supergirl, I forget her name.
Some actors think we need to know how they feel about something. We really don’t.
I think Amazon do not want to hire a new James Bond to have him self-destruct in his personal life or become unmarketable because of political beliefs.
It used to be common sense for actors to maintain a level of professionalism. Some of the younger actors don’t seem capable of it anymore.
So they have to find someone who looks the part, can act the part, and be mature enough to accept a win and a good paying job without feeling they need to share too much with the world.

I think that only really matters to the terminally online. I guarantee that 95% of the people going to see the new Supergirl film will have no idea what its star's political beliefs are (while others might agree with her).

Hey, I'm as terminally online as they come, and as someone with an interest in comics, superhero movies and other geeky stuff, I see a fair few social media posts about the new Supergirl movie. But even I couldn't tell you what Milly Alcock said that has caused controversy. I assumed it was just the usual suspects mouthing off because a woman had an opinion.kater23 wrote:

The James Bond gaming comeback just hit a speed bump. Six days before the May 27th release of 007 First Light, a Denuvo (a controversial anti-tamper software) DRM disclaimer quietly appeared on its Steam listing. Many fans who had pre-ordered the game found this reason enough to cancel. This isn’t an isolated incident. Publishers have made a habit of adding Denuvo close to launch. Crimson Desert did the same thing in March, giving players almost no warning, which led to significant backlash. IO Interactive is even worse, giving buyers only a six-day notice.

To co-sign Omega's point. There's a big difference between a barely known actor starring in a B tier super hero film mouthing off in an interview and the reigning James Bond telling half his audience to piss off.

Maybe. The showings are always at odd times. Now,if they were showing some of the old Bond films ,yeah(and happily pay for it). I have to REALLY want to see a movie to pay so much money..a movie has to interest me.Why I’ve rarely been disappointed.

It doesn't really matter if an actor says anything or not, as influencers have now learned that outrage is an easy way to get clicks. At this point, it's always going to be baked in to their online coverage.Kristatos wrote: Fri May 22, 2026 7:52 pmHey, I'm as terminally online as they come, and as someone with an interest in comics, superhero movies and other geeky stuff, I see a fair few social media posts about the new Supergirl movie. Cubby would've cast Turner back in 2016 and had us all currently discussing whether or not he was going to sign on for a 5th movie!bjmdds wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 11:58 pmAidan Turns 43 next month and STILL can play Bond for a decade if Amazon wants to do 3 films in that NORMAL time period!

The current crop of actors were raised in virtue signaling, then cancel culture. Add a splash of DEI for good measure.Jake wrote:It doesn't really matter if an actor says anything or not, as influencers have now learned that outrage is an easy way to get clicks. Where Molly Alcock go into trouble was for my, I guess demographic, is she is winning life’s lottery, she’s got a cushy job that pays millions. A fan base built in that wants to see what supergirl is about and open to interpretation.
Then she with all of her 26 years experience has to weigh in on something that doesn’t really affect anything, and ultimately wasn’t important.
She’s making millions of dollars. And how many people her age are struggling to make ends meet? Just a little more self-awareness and a little less activism would go a long way.
Kathleen Kennedy had the same kind of chip on her shoulder. Seems like there’s a misconception of who their fans are or the fans of this genre are. Generally comic book and science fiction fans are some of the most open-minded people.
But in the back of my head, I can’t but help feel this might be a James Gunn strategy. He tried to create some kind of controversy about immigration and Superman and that really wasn’t in his film at all. What was in the film was an embarrassing trope of the Third World needing the great white hope in a cape to save them. So much so all they could do is stand and chant for their savior to come, when the Russians were invading Ukraine or whatever that was supposed to be in the film.
I think when Gunn feels he’s got kind of a lemon. He tries to make it look like he was selling something more culturally relevant than he is. could Milly be instructed to take this kind of talking point just to create the controversy because he doesn’t have good expectations for her film?

All the game companies do something like that sooner or later. trying to cut down on piracy or hacking or whatever. It ticks people off as what makes it harder to run the game. They can take a good game and experience to a crappy game experience because of all their security features.bjmdds wrote:The James Bond gaming comeback just hit a speed bump. I can't find the link but I saw a couple of stories on Reddit claiming that Ben Hardy is one of the actors Amazon have tested. He's 35 and was in X-Men: Apocalypse and Bohemian Rhapsody.

I did a Google news search and couldn't find anything. Best not believe anything you read on Reddit unless it can be independently verified.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yeah, it's probably nonsense but it is on Reddit. If you watch the video below from the Doctor Who YouTuber Tharries he has a screenshot in which an 'insider' (groan) mentions the Bond casting while discussing Doctor Who rumours. The 'insider' claims Ben Hardy tested and Jacob Elordi was merely on an intial 'wishlist' rather than an actual candidate. None of this is verified - as was seemingly the case with Tom Francis. I still have a horrible feeling we are going to end up with Callum Turner. Or old big ears as BJ would say.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Tharries does *not* have a good reputation among Doctor Who fandom. So far, only one person is confirmed as having auditioned. They auditioned 8 people before settling on Craig, so I think it's going to be a little while yet before we hear.
